This is a question for the people at RPI. What can and cant you buy at RPI bookstores or nearby stores? they tell you to bring an assortment of clothes, hygienic materials, school supplies, consumables and stuff. The clothes, stuff and most hygienic materials i am not worried about, but do they sell binders, pens, pencils, calculators day planners, paper, post its, rulers, dividers, toothpaste, soaps, toilet paper etc? i dont really want to lug that stuff here, rather just go there and buy it.

Yes on all counts (except maybe toilet paper, which you generally don’t stock yourself if you’re living on campus).

Before he took his car up to campus, my son would occasionally take the bus from campus to go up to Walmart for free using his student ID. He would stock up on whatever he needed at Walmart but if time did not permit he could get his basics on campus too.

there’s a bookstore in the union that sells pretty much all that you listed…though some things can be pretty overpriced.

there’s also a convenience store in the union that sells some basic personal care items in addition to food. again it’s overpriced…but you can use your meal plan’s bonus bucks here.

best bet is to take the free bus up to walmart (~10 minutes) and get everything you need for a fair price.

you’ll also find a lot of pharmacies (cvs, walgreens, rite-aid), a Big Lots, supermarket (price chopper), discount food store (save-a-lot) & 2 dollar stores on that same bus route (#87 which goes up and down Hoosick St)

You can also take the bus all the way past SUNY Albany to the Crossgates mall. There are restaurants and shops all over the place, but the bus ride is about an hour long. It’s recommended to get a ride by car since it’ll only take about 20 minutes.

thanks guys! haha i love me some walmart
