School/Stationary Supplies

Does the Cornell Store sell all necessary school supplies (notebooks, folders, binders, etc.), or is it necessary to bring these items?

The Cornell store has it all...although the prices are often higher than wal mart, target, staples etc....

if you can bring it, why not. the cornell store is more for things that you want to have the cornell logo on it. as for prices, for example a 1 inch binder at the cornell store costs $4. Folders are about a dollar each. Yeah, not cheap.

The Cornell Store is a RIP OFF.

I wouldn't suggest bringing too many notebooks and stuff. Save your luggage space for clothes, etc. Just do your school supply shopping at Target when you get here.

I've got plenty of room in my car for notebooks etc. What do people usually do? In high school we were used to getting a list specifying exactly what we needed and couldn't bring a laptop to class. Do we need a spiral per class? A binder? I know these questions are stupid - but whatever I can do in advance to prepare would be great!

Really? We never got those lists in high school. You should decide for yourself what you need for each class. Organization styles vary among different people and course loads. I had a spiral notebook for classes in which I took notes (math, physics), a laptop for computer science, and a legal pad and folder for writing classes.

I've used notebooks for my math classes and legal pads for my smaller lecture classes. I've never used a laptop for any of my classes, but I print out lecture slides and take notes right on them for the big lectures. It's hard to predict what note-taking style will work for you in each class, so I would recommend bringing a mix of spirals, folders, and binders. You can give yourself a few days in each lecture to decide what works.

We were given a list of necessary notebooks/binders etc. but then of course could modify as we saw fit. It was helpful to know what the teacher expected of each student in terms of notebooks etc. At least everyone was prepared!

I used to get a list in elementary school and kindergarten. They treated us like adults in HS though. You were supposed to learn how to prepare yourself.

There is a walmart and target nearby.

Thx dcro1540. I guess I went to a high school that did not treat us like adults. Good thing you're adult enough for both of us!

i will say that most everything with the cornell logo on it is of very high quality...especially the spirals ^_^

binders are out, spiral notebooks are in.

For most of my classes the profs posted the powerpoint notes online. I had a folder and would carry around the day's notes...then put them into a binder that I kept at my apartment.

Do most people lug around their laptops to class?

most people don't, but some do
