RSI 2018

@aks1118 Thanks so much!

@gkdudtlffj I just looked at my application and realized I forgot to finish a sentence (I literally finished it: fascinating, rigorous, and.) So, you are not alone and I guess all we can do is hope they don’t care lol

RSI!!! The wait for results will be long and painful… When will they be up? Late February to mid March?
All my essays and lists were all ridiculously long lol. I hope them readers will have the patience to skim through my app

@eunlee13 Woaaaaah Chile so lit.

@PoyoKat Land of the earthquakes baby! I emphasized that on my research topic (effective anti-seismic solution) so I hope it was a plus. I’m glad I compete (mostly) with Chilean/South Am. applicants. The only thing that describes me as the asian male hell is my nationality :frowning:

@Fibbonachi10

thanks! hopefully im able to make it…

Which two people would you pick for RSI (Assuming they get all As and have perfect test scores):

  • A person who went to ISEF and got Siemens semis freshman and sophomore year but all of it was in environmental science with no olympiads and takes easiest classes.
  • A person who went to USABO camp with no research experience but takes hard classes.
  • A person who qualified for AIME, USAPhO semis and went to Siemens regionals but takes easier classes.
  • A person who got USAJMO HM, USAPhO semis, varsity tennis, but has no research experience and takes easier classes.
  • A person who qualified for AIME, USAPhO semis, USACO plat, Siemens semis, varsity tennis, but takes the hardest classes possible.

What is the deadline for this application?
Thanks!

@RSIApplicant2018 That question doesn’t make sense. If they all got perfect test scores and all A’s they would all be on an equal playing field, especially with their accomplishments…
Your question of “who would RSI pick” is fundamentally invalid and unrealistic

@TiggerMom The application was due Jan 12 :frowning:

@RSIApplicant2018 I agree with MangoLover on this. In addition, there are other factors to consider (such as the quality of their essays and their recommendations). All four students have acccomplished a lot in regards to competition, so that would not be used as a factor to distinguish them. You also mentioned that they have stellar grades, so that wouldn’t distinguish them either.

Any emails or updates on the College Board issue?

I always heard that RSI accepts a wide range of applicants, but what does that mean? if not medals or research, what credentials make someone stand out?

@umendel Dedication/passion for STEM fields I suppose?

@PoyoKat thanks so much <3

.

Did anyone apply from New York (or know anyone who applied from New York)? Also, how competitive is New York regarding RSI (I’ve heard reports varying from second most competitive state to middle of the road)?

@Fibbonachi10 I applied, and I’m from New York. I do not have any science awards though so I’m def on a lower playing field than everyone here even though my standardized test scores are great (36 all-around ACT, 1510 PSAT, 1550 SAT with 24 essay - but I doubt this’ll help much at all). I’m guessing you are from NY too? I’m going to assume New York is pretty competitive (since it’s a big state and NYC has great public high schools), though I have no idea.

Does anyone know when we start hearing back? Are there elimination rounds or whatever? Can’t find anything on their website.

@19szhang They will release the resuts anywhere from late February to mid March (based on the early date that the application was due, I’m more inclined to say late February or early March this year). They release all the results on the same day (but in the past, people have gotten the results at different times).

@19szhang Also thanks for your response. I, indeed, am from New York and go to one of those good NYC public schools you speak of. Lacking research won’t directly hurt you (unless you don’t demonstrate an interest for research in your essays - which you probably did). Hopefully they take multiple people from NY this year. Best of luck!
