RSI 2018

@19szhang I meant that you probably showed an interest for research in your essays, sorry for the confusing wording

@Fibbonachi10 Thanks so much for your response about the release date, that’s very helpful to know!

Yes, hopefully they do take many NYers this year. Thanks so much, good luck to you as well!

Has anyone got an email saying their application was received yet, because I haven’t. Also, how/when should I send in my fall transcript if it wasn’t available when I submitted the app?

i dont think ur allowed to send in a fall transcript

@kevinabstract You can not send in your fall transcript

@kevinabstract @Fibbonachi10 @Kanger0o

  1. Solution to this could be attaching your most recent progress report to your most recent transcript.
  2. I didn't know that you could do #1 at that time so what I did was just write down my junior year science/math courses on the "additional courses" part of the application.

@gkdudtlffj Those are certainly ways to have addressed that.

@gkdudtlffj ur right i did do that lol. but there is no way to send in an updated transcript after it comes out, which is what i meant

@Kanger0o Did you do #1 or #2?

what do u mean ?

@Kanger0o Look at post # 245 (Which if the two did you do to inform RSI of the courses you were taking this semester)?

@a015170s It is difficult to chance people for RSI because of the wide variety of people they accept- ranging from people with no research experience, to ISEF winners and the like. It is mostly up to how you responded for the personal statements and how of an interest you showed in research, What state you are from also has a bearing (because of how they select applicants). The best advice I can give is to wait for the results to come late February - mid March (I’m so anxious). Best of luck!

I sent Maite an email. She says that the results will be out hopefully by the end of February. I’m hoping for the best. However, looking at the stats of some people here, I’m a bit more worried. I guess all we can do is to wait.

@shreyasminocha That’s great to hear. I’m also concerned about my chances looking at some of the stats, but I guess we have to wait. Best of luck and thanks for emailing Maite about it!

Will it be held against us if we didn’t use all of the available slots for recommendations? I talked about working in a lab in my essays, but only have two of my schoolteachers as recommendations. Will not having a rec from my research mentor effect my chances even though they were unavailable due to family reasons?

@tennisninja I don’t think they’ll hold it against you (atleast not to the extent that they’ll not admit you because of it). It would have been preferable if you explained why there was no reccomendation from your research mentor, but I don’t think it’ll significantly hinder your chances either way. Best of luck!

For any RSI alumni, what was the social life at RSI like? What would you do during your free time/weekends?

Hmm super stressed for ‘end of February’ even though I already know I’m 99% chance getting rejected
