My question concerns the rules and regulations on footwear at USNA. Are there any restrictions to the kinds of running shoes one can bring to either NASS, or the Academy? I wear Vibram FiveFingers as my running shoe and absolutely can't stand normal running shoes. I know the U.S. Army has recently banned all minimalist/barefoot footwear which is why I ask. Thank you in advance for any input.

NASS, no problem. Bring and run in what you will.

USNA/Plebe summer different gig. You’d not want any “hot shot” running shoes, and especially none in any color other than white (or some shade close). No attention, no attention. But you can and should probably bring your own running shoes.

btw, for NASS, not so much an issue, but not so different either. You do not want to stand out much… Except on your CFA. Do your best. No one gives a hoot if you can be #1 in every run. In fact, should you choose to do so, you might paint yourself into a corner you’d rather not be in. Think teammate …make that shipmate. No “Joe.” Separating equipment and behavior can be the makings of legend among the cadre/detailers …“Do you remember that one kid in those electrified, hot-shot, orange shoes who thought he was the next Roger Bannister? Man, I hope he shows up plebe summer.”

Thank you Whistle Pig. That was the insightful response I was looking for. Your wisdom is most respected.
