Okay, so I know we can bring "mostly white" sneakers. I got some sneakers today with the help of someone who checked my feet out and everything. I THINK they are "mostly white" but the other color in them is like a blue/navy strip thing, so it's not like lime green or anything.

How strict is the "mostly white"? I'm not even sure when these sneakers are going to be used... Just wondering about this, that's all

My son got home tonight to begin his leave period. (He's Class of 2011). On his way out the door to get together with friends, he was wearing the "issue" running shoe...which is a basically grey NB shoe...Mesh over a (from what I could tell) dark blue base. They are fairly dark shoes. I asked about the "all white" shoes, and what had happened with them. He said those are the "court shoes", and they are worn when you walk and in class (like Seamanship), but not while running. (I do note that they had them wearing them last summer on the climbing wall, which seemed ridiculous to me...way wrong shoe to wear climbing, but...). Son said he has tossed the court shoes, never to be worn again (hated them then, hates them still). I think the crux of it is...don't be so worried about the color of your shoes. Slime green, day-glo pink, iridescent whatever, shiny silver (basically...something that says "hey, look at me/my feet") or something that evokes thoughts of Army wouldn't be appropriate...but otherwise, you're probably okay.

I've heard from former cadre that "mostly white" is a myth. It doesn't really matter as long as they're not outrageously colored. You'll only be wearing them for PEP and you'll wear the white NB's during the day.

I would agree with that statement. Mostly white is basically a way of being abolutely safe about it. Every company is different and will have different policies, however I've never heard of a company's cadre cracking down on the color of shoes.

The only time you will be wearing them will be for PEP. As long as they do not look ridiculous there will be fine. Any normal pair of running shoes are ok. They would much rather you wear them instead of being on chit for getting a stress fracture.

wear you sneakers in on I-Day- you will be issued new ones to wear (which you will change into)- but USNA has been known to run out of sizes, so you never know!

The shoes you get, get based on comfort, no one cares about the style or colors. You wear them for an hour every day, because even for MPT we had to wear our go-fasters. You're given two sets of new balance shoes, one you wear all the time wiht your white works and another for 'training'. I donated both pairs at the end of the summer because they are so uncomfortable. I wish we could have worn our own, but it is the navy.
