First, congrats to all USNA C/O 2012. My question relates to footware. I understand that presently the brigade uses New Balance MX622WT xtraining shoes. I also understand that they will be provided footware on I-day. I am anticipating that the Xtraining shoes will remain the same.

Can we purchase shoes like the NB and break them in for PSummer? Likewise, can we do the same for boots, and any other footware? If so, does anyone know shoe/boots brand and models are issued? Thanks much.

You can bring any type of athletic shoes you want, they don't have to be the issued type of NB. In fact, I recall seeing more people wearing other shoes than the issued ones. My advice: find a shoe you like, break it in, and bring it.

I believe the same is true for boots, however fewer people choose to do that.

For PT/PEP purposes, you can bring your own running shoe (mostly white rule applies).

During other evolutions, you must wear the same shoes/boots that were issued. If you want to go out of your way to get the same white cross-trainers or boots, then that's up to you. I don't think you will have any real problems breaking in the x-trainer or boots.

Don't really worry about the mostly white rule. You only wear them to PEP in the morning, just make sure they're not really really colorful. You're given 2 other pairs of shoes to wear and thsoea re tehones that you'll wear almost all of the time.

Moving from feet to wrist...does anyone know if we are allowed a watch during plebe summer and if so what are the specifications (color, etc.) Thanks.

From my understanding, I think I got this from navy2010 on a previous thread, but maybe not. Watches are taken away on I-day and all the clocks in Bancroft are covered as well.

yeah, i remember seeing that somewhere, too. ugh, after 4 years of running and xc skiing my watch has become like a part of my body... i don't know how i'll live w/o it!

Depends on your cadre. I was allowed to keep my watch because I ran cross country during sports period. Our clocks weren't covered. We had pretty good access to time when I was a plebe. I really don't understand what psychological effect time deprivation has...it's always the same time during plebe summer until you go to bed.

hersheybear04 -- I'm with you; we time most runs here so it would be horrible to not have a watch.

GoNavyXC -- I have hope I have a cadre that will let me keep mine.... I think someone said somewhere that they weren't allowed to keep theirs even though they were on the XC team... Hmmmm... well fingers crossed, we'll see what happens.
