Rushing as a Spring Transfer student

So I’m looking into possibly rushing fraternities for when I transfer next spring but was wondering how common it was for older students to rush. Being a transfer student, I’m already older but I also took a few years off school straight out of high school so would it be weird if a 23 year old were to rush? Technically I’m a junior but I’ll probably be in school for another 3 more years and want to spend those years being a part of a fun organization with strong bonds such a fraternity. I won’t know very many people transferring in so I feel this too would be a great way to make new friends and develop life-long relationships with. I understand it’s more of a freshman thing to do and can deal with the age difference but will rushing as an older transfer student hinder me from getting bids from fraternities?

If it matters, I’ve applied to CSU schools and specifically looking into Chico’s Greek life but responses from anyone with their experiences from other schools would be greatly appreciated.

My son is in a Chico fraternity - he rushed in the Spring of last year as a sophomore and noted several Jr transfers in his pledge class. 23 will definitely make you somewhat older than your pledge-mates but, if you don’t care, they probably wont either. As with most schools, there are several and they have very different personalities, making it pretty easy to find one that fits you. There are a couple of frats that are no longer affiliated with the school - primarily due to discipline around hazing and alcohol violations. Unless that’s what you are looking for, steer clear of them and you’ll be fine.

As long as you live close to campus, you won’t have any trouble meeting other students. There are so many students in the area surrounding campus, you’ll literally be tripping over them.
