Rushing Professional Business Fraternity

im a sophomore and I just rushed some professional business fraternities at Umich. This was my first time applying and unfortunately I didn’t get into any. I was wondering if I could rush again in the fall even though I would be a junior? Or is that not acceptable? Also would that be weird or seem too desperate?

What is the purpose of a professional business fraternity? And can those purposes be met by other channels?

The propose is to professional and social networking. It’s difficult finding the same channels outside of these orgs. I really did enjoy one of the groups and had several people helping me getting in. I liked everyone and felt like I would fit in really well. I was really shocked when I didn’t move onto the next round. They also provide connections to top consulting firms across the nation which is ultimately what I would like to do.

@MichiganGirl18 I have another question. It may be a naive one. Why can’t it be open to anyone who wants to join? The fraternity doesn’t have the limiting factor of a house. Why limit who can network?

@MichiganGirl18 You should look on their website to see if they allow juniors to rush or not. I mean I guess it might feel a little weird rushing as a junior since a majority of ppl will be sophomore/freshmen, but I mean if you are someone who doesn’t care about that type of stuff, you should go for it.

@brantly Probably cause it gives it an aura of desire since it is competitive to get into and so that it can seem like a social frat

I am just trying to wrap my head around how these frats are helpful. Can you not network with someone who is not in a business frat?

@brantly Of course you can, but the point is that fraternities make it easier to network with people within the fraternity
