Hey, so I recently got into best hall at Rutgers University, but I am not sure if I should stay there or opt out of it and get a regular freshman dorm. I am a pharmacy major and best hall only resides pharmacy, engineering, and science majors. I am focused on my studies, but I I would like to have a balance with my social life as well. I am just afraid that I am going to feel isolated from everyone else and only people with a science major. Can anyone please give me reviews on best or any opinions on what I should do? I would really appreciate it, thanks!

My son lived in the BAMM dorms. My advice, take BEST and try it out. It is new, it has A/C. You will have more privacy.

You will be exposed to more people in the dorms on a daily basis due to the hall setup, but you lose privacy as well. Also, the BAMM dorms are old! They were built in 1976.

I wouldn’t worry about making friends. Join clubs, talk to people in the dining hall and in your classes. You will meet tons of people either way.

btw I graduated from the pharmacy school many years ago. You have a built-in community right there as you will be taking many classes together. Don’t worry, you will meet people!

Take advantage of BEST. It’s only a year old, has an AC, and the rooms are much better than the other dorms. Everybody is worried about the social aspect of BEST, but there’s no need for that. I had many friends who lived in BEST and each floor was very close and even did some group activities. Meanwhile, I lived in the traditional dorms (Allen Hall) and our floor was not social at all.

im going to be a freshman at rutgers, can i apply my sophomore year to be in BEST hall? it sounds like a great place!

I lived at best this past year and it was great. your going to love living with other science majors because if u stayed in dorm where people had majors that didnt involve much work outside of class and always saw them having fun, u would get so annoyed that u had to work. I know this because one of my friends on my floor was pre business, so he was still in SAS allowing him to still live in BEST; anyway he would complain about the smallest things taking only 14 credits, while i had both bio and chem and had 16 credits the first semester and 18 the other. In terms of the socializing aspect, people always say never party where you sleep. Your going to love that you can sleep and nap at any time you want because in the end without sleep, you cant live. If you want to have fun, your going to make friends everywhere and you can always visit them. My floor was really cool and we all became friends. You never going to have to worry about feeling too cold or too hot because theres central air and you have your own private bathroom, as a guy thats not a really big deal for me, but if ur a girl i dare you to tell you to tell your mom that you would rather live in a place where you had to use a public bathroom rather than living in a suite with a private bathroom. Anyways BEST is awesome, if u have any more questions, ask away!
