Rutgers BEST hall reviews

Can anyone give me some reviews on Rutgers new dorm, BEST Hall?

It looks like hotel. Once you step inside the building, you will be overcome with tremendous jealousy. The fancy new metal elevator will probably make it worse. After the silent elevator kindly escorts you to upstairs, the first thing you notice is that the hallway is dead silent as if you’ve arrived at a funeral. Don’t worry; it’s usually like that. There is a large flat screen TV in the lounge on each floor. If I remember correctly, I think there are 3 lounges on each floor. The lounge sofas are made out of soft beige leather. There’s also a pool table, a kitchen (though I don’t think you’re supposed to use it), and a laundry room. The suite style rooms are blockaded with sturdy wooden doors that are perhaps unnecessarily monumental for an average Rutgers students’ height. Inside your suite room, the two rooms are connected by a bathroom. 1 tub and 1 toliet. The wooden floor allows you to easily moon walk across the room unlike carpet would. At night, you get to listen to the wonderful music of silence as you fall deeper and deeper into sleep on your cozy pillow. And you know the cycle repeats once you wake up the next morning with the sunlight’s gentle kiss on your cheeks.

i lol’d^

By far the BEST(pun intended) dorms at Rutgers for freshman. In my freshman year, i lived in a freshman dorm on busch and it was like the best experience(open door policy for me).

I heard BEST is not like that because it is a 2 room suite.

I did not live in BEST but from the outside it looks really nice like a hotel. I lived in a suite(upperclassman but McCormick Hall is for Honors SAS Freshman) this year and it was usually you hang out with your suitemates and probably the two suites next to you while in freshman dorms you usually talk to everyone on the floors.

The freshman dorms can be a hit or a miss because some have A/C and some don’t.

im going to be a freshman at rutgers, can i apply my sophomore year to be in BEST hall? it sounds like a great place!

You should be able to apply, an essay is required for non-first year. I lived in Allen hall my first year, and I used the BEST kitchen all the time. I enjoyed the regular dorms because of the open-door and overall friendliness. There’s still a social aspect to BEST, since the rooms are bigger and more people can fit, but the door’s automatically closing kind of limits it. I was incredibly jealous, but I loved my freshman experience anyway.

thank you! when do applictaion come out? and also where would i find one?

Don’t worry about that yet. That won’t be til the spring semester, and Rutgers will keep you updated on housing. To be eligible you have to apply for a lottery number in January, and the applications for special interest housing (BEST is considered that) will be available when you apply for the lottery. But Rutgers sends everyone emails about the application, and if you live on campus freshman year your RA can also help. But a lot is going to change in your first year, focus on enjoying it and don’t focus on sophomore year and where you might live until you have to!

how do you get into the BEST hall freshman year? like do you need good grades, SAT scores, placement results… etc??

No, it’s completely randomized. If you’re a science major, though, your chance of being selected is greater.

By definition, it isn’t completely random if it gives one major an advantage over another.

I just thought I should clarify on BEST Hall, since I’m going to be living there again for my second year at Rutgers.

To live in BEST, you MUST be taking/thinking of majoring in any life science, any of the engineering majors, and any computer science. If you’re in SEBS or School of Nursing you WILL NOT be accepted to live there, sorry :/

Living BEST is a completely different experience from other dorm halls. It is quiet, and FULL of Asian cliques, it’s their preference. The people at BEST are all really friendly though, from RAs to residents. There’s a lounge on each floor. And each building has its own game room. East has foosball, North has billiards, and WEST, the main BEST building, has ping pong!! BEST is awesome when you make friends because you can literally do anything in the hallways with the amount of space there is. (My friends and I had a nerf war last school year).

If you ever want to re-live at BEST you just sign back at the end of the school year. YOU CANNOT live at BEST if you didn’t come in as a freshman.
THATS ALL :]

So I recently got accepted to Rutgers and I was looking at the resident halls and I really liked BEST hall. If you want to live there your fall semester of freshman year, when do you apply by??
