So, I am out of state and when I checked my scholarship letter they gave me instate plus $10,000 in scholarship. I was confused because I am out of state but I ignored it because I was born in NJ. This brought it down to the instate tuition in my state, Now, I was just about to commit today so I was just checking over everything and they change my scholarship. Now they only gave my the $10,000. Can they do this? Is that a mistake?
I’m checking for clarity…you KNEW you were OOS but just assumed this instate tuition was correct?
Contact the school…but it sounds like they corrected their error which was exactly what they should have done. To be honest, this type of mistake could have been corrected by them at any time…including when you were already enrolled. If that had happened, you would have been asked to,pay back any aid to,which you were not entitled,
If you think you really should have this instate tuition rate for some reason…call the school…and ask.
I guess I was just hoping for the best lol… but thanks! I’ll call first thing tomorrow
Of course they can do this. If the basis for your instate claim is that you were born in NJ you aren’t entitled to instate tuition. In some states (NY is one) if you attend HS in NY, even if you commute over the bridge from NJ, you MAY be entitled to instate tuition in NY.
So line up your facts- and call them first thing in the morning.
Some schools do give “in state tuition” as part of a scholarship - so it isn’t unheard of that this could be real, not a mistake. I’d ask, can’t hurt!
