rutgers full ride vs NYU full price

Which would you choose?

are we talking abt nyu stern?

sure. IF it was stern? And if it wasn't?

if you plan on going to grad school, then rutgers definitely. if not, then its more of a toss up. This is assuming finances are a factor (which is why you would be posting this in the first place...)

Not close,. Rutgers. We're talking $200,000.

You can't just ask people to choose one of two completely different schools. They will either pick Rutgers because of bias on the Rutgers' board or NYU because of it's name. Give us a specific major and we can give you opinions and facts. Asking such a general question makes you sound immature without any knowledge for college searching.

I think EarthlyDelights is going a little extreme, but I'd say ever if you are not going to Grad school that you should take advantage of a full ride. Unless you have dreams of being a top lawyer in a top law firm, save the money. That's what I would do at least.

I had to make the decision last year and I chose Rutgers. It's not a terrible school but it's just not for me and I'm applying to transfer out to NYU. I guess if it's Stern, definitely go to NYU because although RU Business is pretty good, it pales in comparison to Stern which is nationally known for its program. If for anything else, logic tells you to go to Rutgers. But if you're anything like me, you may regret it.

I, too, had to make the same decision last year between Rutgers and NYU. I chose Rutgers and I'm 100% behind my decision still. Unless it's NYU for Stern, I don't think it's worth it, and many others I asked as well agree. NYU is a great school, but I don't think it's THAT much better than Rutgers to justify being ~200K in debt after just UNDERGRAD (again, unless it's Stern). A free ride is something you should take advantage of and possibly look to apply to a top-notch grad. school.

If it is Stern, however, it's a tough decision. There are pro's and con's of going to both. It comes down to what your preferences (ex: location, school size, etc.) and if you're willing to take on that debt. I don't think you'll regret either a free ride at RU or Stern.

According to the Business Week survey for 2007, the average starting salary from Stern is $54,000, while the average starting salary from Rutgers Business School is $52,500. How does that justify an additional $200,000 in cost (or even $150,000, if the OP equates tuition-free with full ride).

I would assume it would be a lot easier to get a job coming from Stern that from Rutgers.

11th commandment--thou shalt not assume. In this case, the numbers are the numbers.

I'm an atheist

To assume is to make an ass -- ah, never mind.

If I had to choose between a full ride to Rutgers or NYU, I'd choose Rutgers. Hey, why not if I'm going for free?!

Most people would probably go for the "prestigious" school, so my advice to the original poster, go to NYU Stern if you don't mind being in a crapload of debt after graduating. If NYU sucks, just transfer to Rutgers or whatever school you want to. Problem solved.

full-price at NYU, that would take you to around 200K. That's a lot of debt to take on. Ask yourself if you'd be comfortable with you and your parents taking on that amount of debt. I am not familiar with Rutgers, if they do have an Honors program. Many kids turn down expensive schools for free rides and acceptance to honors programs.

If you go to NYU and decide to transfer, it is highly doubtful that the free ride opportunity would still be there the following year.

Sorry to bring a thread back from the dead but i am curious as to whether this still holds true?

I was currently accepted into Rutgers Arts and Sciences, and Business
I was also accepted into NYU CAS.

I doubt i will get a scholarship from NYU but i might get 5 k from RU.

Which one would you go with? I mean we are strictly comparing what i got accepted to -so that means not stern.

I am so confused ! Thanks guys <3

Comparison:

Rutgers Businss School:In state, full-time: $18,825 In state, part-time: $780 (per credit hour) Out of state, full-time: $30,027 Out of state, part-time: $1,247 (per credit hour)
