Rutgers Honors College (scholarship)?

I was accepted into the Honors College for SAS and for Pharmacy(I don’t even know how I qualified my scores were sub par). And I was accepted into the nursing school which I was planning to go to but have since changed my mind because apparently If you get into an Honors College you get money?

I was wondering what is the minimum they give in scholarships for Honors College. And do they give Merit Scholarships in ADDITION to financial aid. So say I got 10k for merit could I get another 10k for financial aid. I don’t really know how it works. Thank you

@anitaclare234. If you have a financial need that is greater than the merit award it is possible to get both a merit award and an additional need based financial award. If your need is less than your merit award, you will not get additional funds. If your need is higher than the merit, it is possible that your total need based aid for nursing will equal the total from either with them honors college. Wait and see what each offers before you write-off the nursing option! If you get need based aid, you will want to consider whether you are getting grants, loans or workstudy. Your really should compare your options line by line.

Congrats to you!

Yeah so the nursing program is completely different from SAS, Engineering, SEBS, Business, Pharmacy, and Mason Gross. They don’t usually give money out for nursing and the honors program for nursing starts sophomore year if you are invited.
Go where your heart desires!
Good luck!

I don’t know about this year, but last year Honors college did not guarantee scholarship money. Scholarship info came out late last year (Late Feb, maybe March). The students I know who were accepted into honors college ranged from a free ride, to no scholarship money and multiple values in between. Everyone I know there seems to be very happy, but I wouldn’t count your scholarship dollars until your portal says they’re yours.

They don’t list a minimum amount Honor College students receive, but you’ll definitely receive something.

Hi EverythingIsBlue,

I also read the below statement on the website and after seeing my daughter’s aid package this weekend I can tell you she received nothing but a federal loan. She made it to the Honors college and like a lot of NJ kids she wasn’t ecstatic about Rutgers when compared to other out of state schools she has applied to. And like a lot of NJ parents I was trying to sell her that the school itself was a solid school. I was expecting something based on the statement below and it was truly disappointing. She has solid credentials and has already received some decisions from other schools. We are waiting for all the financials to come in and make a decision. If other schools are the same cost we are probably going elsewhere.

Does anyone know if merit can be appealed?

@Another2BPoorDad it’s worth a call to the admissions office to try to appeal, or at least ask why she didn’t get a merit award but was admitted to honors
