I am currently a sophomore at my local community college. I have applied to Rutgers for the fall 2017 semester and was subsequently rejected. This was due to 2 very poor grades and a withdrawal from a course.
I had taken 7 credits over the summer, taking the course from which I withdrew and retaking one of the bad grade courses. That was 7 credits. After significantly improving the grade for one of the poor grades, I had applied for reconsideration and was subsequently rejected, again.
I have finished up 4 more credits, a lab course and a retake of the second poor grade class. I was going to appeal again, but that would have been extremely pointless and would have resulted in a rejection again.
When I called admissions to inquire about the rejection, they mentioned that they would like to see around 24 more credits, since my initial application.
I really want to attend Rutgers New Brunswick. Without hesitation I can say that it’s my dream school and I can absolutely see myself thriving there. I can elaborate on this with pages and pages, but that is not the point of this post. Because I deeply wish to attend RU, I want to give it another shot in October for the spring semester.
I just wonder if it will be pointless to do so. The ad-coms kept encouraging me to apply for the spring semester, but it is only their job to do so, as the school profits off of application fees. They also told me that being previously rejected will not count against me; I fail to understand the process, maybe it’s because I am frustrated or maybe it is because nothing makes too much sense.
If during my initial application I had 16 credits from the fall semester and was rejected, technically I would have 24 more credits since then (13 from the spring and 11 from the summer). Keep in mind that the two poor grade classes were one from the fall and one from the spring. I am taking a few extremely rigorous courses this fall, with a total of 15 credits. They are also courses that are pre-reqs for my desired major at Rutgers.
So if I appealed with 13 + 7 credits, 20 credits since my initial application, and was subsequently rejected, without the 4 from the summer, and my 15 credits will not have grades by the time of application, then won’t I automatically be rejected?
I know I have retaken the courses that I have bombed and will have more than the 16 original credits. But if my appeal was denied and I don’t have new fall grades to show them, then will I just be denied?
I am so confused about spring admission and immensely frustrated with myself. If someone has been through a similar situation or knows exactly how spring admission works, this over-caffeinated, nervous college student would appreciate your response!
I’m sorry to say but you should try Rutgers Newark campus as you already know that Rutgers NB is rejecting you again and again this shows how good applicants Rutgers NB already have. I also want to go to Rutgers NB (Business School) but because I have a lot of W’s in computer science courses (That’s not even my major anymore) I’m getting rejected too. I have a very good GPA 3.6+ but they don’t care. Rutgers NB wants a good candidate overall not just a good GPA. I applied to Rutgers Newark Business School a few days before. Let’s see how it goes.
