Transferring To: Rutgers New Brunswick -- this fall semester Fall 2011

I am currently a freshman finishing my spring semester at county and finally after my 3rd time applying since high school i got into Rutgers.

I will be a sophomore this fall semester in Rutgers

Now I know i totally missed out on the Freshman experience but I am looking for a way to ease into this large university.
I am confused if i should go with on campus housing or off-campus housing. Currently i know a few people who go there but have not spoken with them in ages and am not very good friends with.
What are the benefits of on campus housing? whats the benefits of off campus housing (besides money). Will it be easy to make good friends as a sophomore knowing absolutely no one in off campus housing?

I just want to make my sophomore year worth it so I get into gear with the college experience. Any transfer students please let me know your input anything is highly appreciated.

I’m transferring there in the Fall as well as a junior. I’d recommend on-campus housing because it will be easier to meet people and you will be closer to everyone.

Ya thats what i was thinking. I know it will cost more but im not sure if its worth it or not.
Do they let juniors dorm? and which campus is the best in NB? thanks

Hey,
I just got accepted to NB. I’m currently a freshman at BU and i’m transferring this fall. I live 15 minutes away from New Brunswick, but I’m still planning to stay on-campus. I want to live in College Ave, cause I’m coming from Boston, so i like the ‘urban’ feel. Busch has more grass and is an actual campus, cook is for sciences, douglas is all girls (i think), and i think livingston is mostly freshman (not sure). This is what i know from friends who go there now.

Same here! Im transferring in the fall 2011 semester as a junior from Montclair State University… but I’m a little hesitant about dorming since people already have their own group of friends. any advice?

I’m transferring to the Rutgers New Brunswick campus from Temple University. What I’d like to know is the probability of getting housing for transfers.

With that said, you should live on campus. Rutgers is a school that thrives off of its school spirit. I won’t even begin to try and compare it to Temple - that school’s a social quagmire. Cliquish doesn’t even begin to describe the social milieu at that school. It’s so easy to meet people at Rutgers, though. The people are very friendly. You’ll even meet people riding the bus to class. If you’re a Scarlet Knight, you already make a great candidate for a friend.

I’d recommend living on Livingston, the campus geared toward freshmen/transfers. It is given a bad reputation by people who never lived there (my ex-girlfriend lived there her freshman year). It is the pinnacle of college communal living. The most diffident student could make friends if a desire is exhibited. The myriad of activities and mixers that the RAs put together bring all different kinds of people together. Living on campus is something you should strongly consider.
