Rutgers, Rowan, or TCNJ for biology??

Hi my name is Rebecca. I am apart of the NJ STARS program and am currently attending my county college. I want to presue a career involving animals and nature so I am pretty much going to major in Biological Sciences. I was set on going to Rutgers University for their wide variety of programs for the sciences, but I am still not sure if I will like the environment it is in. I am also looking into TCNJ and Rowan University. Which do you think is the best school for Biology and which will give me the best oppurtunities and education. And which looks best on applications?

You should probably apply to all, and decide based upon where you are admitted.

Of the 3, TCNJ is the hardest to get accepted to. Their Biology program is known to be strong, and is harder to get admitted to than any other major. For incoming freshman, there is an earlier application date to be admitted to the Biology major. I don’t know if that is the case for transfer students, but worth looking into.

Rutgers is the next most competitive for acceptance. Rutgers is the best known of the 3 schools, and is much larger than the others.

If you aren’t able to get accepted to TCNJ, and you prefer a smaller school, Rowan is a good choice.

Yes for biological sciences, any one will do. If you want more courses involving the animal sciences, definitely Rutgers. New Brunswick has the animal science major, and the Newark campus has zoology.

It all depends on the specific courses that you desire. Have you looked thru the course catalogue for all three schools? Rowan and TCNJ really don’t have any animal science courses.

Rutgers has a very good animal science program that focuses on large animals. Take a tour of the barns - they are quite impressive. (Friday is 4H/FFA day, so the barns are open for tours. Check out the agenda on the Rutgers-SEBS website).

If your interests run to the environmental side of biology, I’ll also through out there the suggestion of Richard Stockton U, which has superb environmental science programs.

If you want a career working with animals, it’s Rutgers. That’s it. TCNJ is strong in BioMed and pharma for those nearby corporations. Rowan has opened a medical school, but it’s not mature yet.

I don’t mean to be snide, but if you want to get accepted, don’t misspell “pursue” and “opportunity” on your application.
