Last year I attended a university and decided to switch majors and attend my community college. My grades from the first university came to a GPA cumalitive, 2.1 after 30 credits, which would have been maybe a 3.0 if it weren't for design classes, hence the reason for switching the major.

i've taken 21 credits at my comm college and my gpa is cumalitive 3.87 separate from the previous university.

i want to switch to political science and enviro studies, and ive been taking mainly classes within that interest since my transfer to the community college.

My advisor says they look at the most recent transcript, but I have a feeling they'll be confused by the vast difference between the two transcripts.

Q's-
Will they take into account the major switch and kind of courses i took in relation to grades?
Do they really focus mainly on the most recent transcript?
Could I get in for Fall 09 with these credentials?

also, both transcripts combined have a cum gpa of a little over 2.8

as you may already know, rutgers is getting increasingly more competitive. if they take into account both transcripts, a 2.8 is not very impressive. I'm sorry if that was harsh. But they do want a gpa of at least over a 3.0.

I'm sure that they will look at your most recent transcript more than your earlier one, and a 3.87 is impressive so that is good. I wouldn't worry about it too much. but maybe explain the reason for the gpa discrepancy somewhere on the app.

i will probably include that in my essay. the main reason for the low gpa is because of classes that dealt with the subject matter of the major i switched from, would they take that into account?

i am not that familiar with the transfer process or what schools look at, so any input is appreciated.

I just transferred into Rutgers this semester.

Honestly I'm pretty sure it all just goes into a computer system. I do know that if you get rejected you can appeal... I think a girl on these forums did that last year and wound up getting in.

I wouldn't think so. To be honest, the adcom at rutgers doesn't have time to deliberate over circumstances and whatnot. They mostly look at the numbers, the numbers at the bottom of the page, the cumulative numbers--the whole picture.

anyway, good luck with everything. I hope it all works out.

just in case anyone has the same thing as me with all the transfer transcripts…i got into rutgers with those credentials… i guess they take into strong consideration the most recent transcript!
