Rutgers Transfer

Hi, question for transfer again.

Anyway I am graduating with an associates degree a community college in Spr 09. I had a 3.6 gpa from there as of fall '09 for 49 credits. However, I atteneded another school NYU in fall 06 and had a 1.66 gpa for 15 credits. I am in the Phi Theta Kappa program now. I had a 3.75 gpa in High School, National Honors Society and other things. I work part time at a high end retail store and well.....yeah. Oh and I wrote a wonderfing person statement accordingly to my guidance counselor talking about myself, goals aspiration, achievements and change in academic performance. Is there a good chance of me getting into rutgers nb. Oh, an I followed teh NJ transfer guid and only missed probably 1-3 classes from completing the whole thing. Do I have a chance.

Oh and the cumlative from the colleges is 3.15...chances?

I sent in all my credentials on time although It took about a month for them to show up in the "rutgers system" and I resent my transciprts again in late february to show a winter classs that I took had gotten posted.

You definitely have a chance. They see that you’ve improved since the 1.66GPA and are a solid B student now. The high school grades doesn’t matter as you will get an associates.

Im going in also with a associates and a 3.24 GPA. I failed a class early in my college career and have steadily improved from that. I applied 3 weeks after the priority deadline so I am not sure if there will be space available.

Did you attend CC instate? What RU school/major did you apply to?

I applied for Finance major and attended UCC. However, I just want to get into the SAS becuase I decided to change my major to double major in Comparative Literature and Economics and minor in Japanese.

oh yeah i am in state. I applied for Finance major. However, I just want to get into the SAS becuase I decided to change my major to double major in Comparative Literature and Economics and minor in Japanese.

i’m in almost the exact same situation as you! I don’t have an associates either. If i don’t get in for the fall should i try to finish the associates degree in the summer when i apply for the spring? Or it doesn’t really make a difference?

edit- also please keep me updated if u get in

fordhamer, you don’t have to tell them about the major now. Once you get in SAS, you can just change it.

robteller, I heard from counselors that it’s easier to get in Rutgers with an Associates degree

magent, so we should just put down undecided? If i load up on credits for the summer i could possibly finish the associates degree before the oct cutoff for spring admission… does anyone else know anything about that?

rob, I don’t think the major means much when we fill in the applications. We are just applying for that particular school. If you want to get your AS degree then tell Rutgers that you’ll be entering with a AS degree.

Notice that transfers and associates degree holders are different categories: http://admissions.rutgers.edu/preview/default.asp?c=2

thanks for the post magent i’ll definitely try to finish my associates. I had a 1.5gpa for 30 credits at a large state u but now when i finish my associates this summer i should have a 3.85 for 64 credits. Tell me if you guys get in magent/ford

the rule of thumb is if you have a 3.0+ GPA (at community) and are going to hold an associates degree before you come to rutgers, you are pretty much gauranteed admission for Arts and Science unless there are any red flags such as:

felonies
caught cheating
a really bad essay
terrible high school grades
failing more than one class
MISSING THE PRIORITY DEADLINE DATE OF JAN. 15th

I was admitted to SAS NB, Rutger Newark Business, Rutgers Camden today.

We all have hope!

that’s awesome fordhamer. Congrats!
did you get an email congratulating you on your admission?
