I had recently received acceptance letters from these two. (Yay me. :D) I'm still waiting to hear from UMD, Temple, and Towson, though I'm probably not gonna go there....I've been in a state of quandary, trying to figure out whether or not Rutgers or Penn State would be good for me. I liked Rutgers initially for it's large diversity, and it's good looking campus. But, many of my family and peers tell me that Penn State is higher ranked. My parents would actually prefer me to go there, though it'd be more expensive.....Today, I compared the two more in-depth. I can major in Computer Science and minor in Japanese at both colleges. But, Rutgers pulled me in with it's Study Abroad programs, and my ability to learn piano(for free), without having to major in it. Should I go to Rutgers based on this, or are there other aspects of Penn State I should look at?

I would look at Penn State too, but if you don’t look at things with an open mind, your opinion won’t change. Clearly you’re already biased toward Rutgers. Since you like it more and it’s cheaper, I would go there.

Temple is more diverse than both, and if you’re interested in Japanese, we have the oldest foreign university campus in Japan:

Are you instate for Rutgers?

how much will your parents pay towards your education each year? will they pay full costs for both schools?

Penn St costs $40k per year. If you’re instate for Rutgers, and money is an issue, then go there.
