I've limited my college search down to Rutgers and Udell but I'm having trouble deciding which school will be best for me. I live in NJ so Rutgers is cheaper but not by much because I received money from Delaware. Rutgers seems to be too big but has a lot to offer. Delaware has a great campus and a more traditional college experience. Both have solid academics (poli sci major, spanish and arabic minors). I like to have a good time and party but I don't want to go a school where drinking is the only option for nightlife, mostly because I don't want to mess up in school. Any suggestions?

Both schools have their plusses and minuses. My spouse and I both went to RU (Rutgers College/Douglass College) and our D (nursing major) decided to attend UD rather than RU. Both schools have excellent academics and multiple social/athletic/scholastic activities along with “partying” (depending on your degree of interest). UD is a medium sized school with about 16,000 undergrads but the way it is laid out it feels a lot smaller. You can walk to just about all the classrooms at UD without having to ride a bus. It does have a smaller more intimate feel to it as compared to RU and you don’t get the feeling that you are just one of the masses. So if you are looking for a smaller school that still has the academic/social opportunities available that are commonly associated with a very large school then UD is a good choice. You really can’t go wrong attending either school. Good luck in making your decision.

What are you thinking about majoring in? That can be a deciding factor. If you’re doing chemical engineering, UD hands down.

As for me, I decided to pick RU over UD. For a while, I REALLY wanted to go to UD. I loved the campus and I loved the school. However, I went to RU’s info session and admitted students day, and they seemed to have everything I was looking for in a school. I want to do pre-vet, and both RU and UD have an equally good program, I think. In the end, it came down to money. UD wanted $10,000 more than RU, and with the scary student loan debt articles I’ve been seeing/reading, I chose RU. Vet and med school is super expensive, and I just want to save up as much as I can Good luck to you!
