I'll be a sophomore at UGA this fall and have been assigned to live in Rutherford. I was wondering what the overall fill of the residence hall is like? Is it a social dorm where many people keep their doors open and talk to one another or is it a kind of dorm where most people keep to themselves? I realize it will be a calmer environment than the freshman dorms, but will it still be easy to meet and hang out with people? Any input is helpful, thanks!

Depends on your peers which vary per year. Rutherford is right by Myers quad, which is a great place for social gathering. IMO, Myers quad is the best location for a dorm. U’ve landed in the right place.

Rutherford has been fairly quiet in the past so I’d suggest joining an organization to find people with common interests. On the bright side, the dorm is BEAUTIFUL. In my opinion, it’s the best dorm on campus. This place has a marble staircase. I mean c’mon, there’s no need for that! But yeah every room is spacious and has its own private bathroom. The lobby is super nice. The whole building is brand new, just opened in August after being completely torn down and rebuilt. It’s on the quad which is nice for socializing as the person above me mentioned, in between 2 dining halls (Snelling and O-house), and surrounded by bus stops so you never have to walk anywhere. This dorm was in super high demand. It was lucky that you got it! Let me know if you have any other questions!
