UGA dorms

I’m going to UGA in the fall and I’d like some input from people who have experience with the dorm buildings. I saw the new Russell, and while it’s super nice I’m not a huge fan of the tiny room size. I’d love to know if anyone had a dorm freshman year thatthey really liked/disliked and why. I’m also considering reed, o-house, and Myers.

My advice would be to give preference to newer dorms that are most central to where you believe your classes will be with the largest rooms and no community bathrooms. You can only select Myers if you are in the honors program (and it has community bathrooms).

Do all the freshmen dorms have air conditioning?

Yes, it’s Georgia. But not all of the air conditioning is central air. Check with housing on the older dorms.

My son was interested in Meyers, Rutherford and Russell. Academics are a priority, but he does like to relax. Any suggestions?

He can only pick Myers if he is in honors. Rutherford is nice and has semi-private bathrooms; I have not seen Russell. Your DS will have plenty of relaxation as UGA has an active party scene on the weekends. My D is moving off campus next year. She is very active on campus but prefers a bit more peace and quiet.

Toured Myers last week. Met w/ housing folks. Talked to staff at Myers. The statement that Myers is ONLY for honors students is false. Honors students are prioritized there, but regular students may live there too.

@BoneDoc624 That is true, but honors and any friends honors students choose to pull in as roommates leaves little to no room for non-honors students.
