We are beyond thrilled because it was his top choice. I have to admit, I kept thinking it may be a long shot. Now that he’s been accepted I’m really concerned about the cost. He was offered a merit scholarship, but it only covers about half. Of course, we’re thankful, but it’s still a pretty big chunk to figure out financially. Are there any parents of students or potential students that could point me in the right direction for more scholarships, work study opportunities, etc? I do want to make his dream a reality but am stressing the bill.
Congratulations. My son is a junior. His top choice also. Great school. That is the normal merit award. Call and ask for an appeal they will up it a couple thousand. Tell them this is his top choice. As for work study, plenty to go around. My son says anyone who wants one can get one. Good luck!!!
Congrats! A dream school for many young artists. Best of luck!
CONGRATS. It is an exciting time of year for young musicians, especially when they get rewarded for all their hard work and time spent practicing in high school. I definitely would call Eastman. Eastman has a nice endowment and unlike some other conservatories they do have some wiggle room when it comes to scholarships. I know that for my son they increased his scholarship after our son made it clear that distance was an issue with him deciding to not go to Eastman.
@trumpetmom99 can I ask by what method he heard? I had heard rumblings around here of people actually receiving phone calls, but the fact that you already know the merit scholarship makes it sound like you might have gotten it via mail/email.
Congratulations @trumpetmom99 !! Hope you can get some more $$ from them. I have a feeling we’ll be in the same situation at my daughters top choice.
@DesignDad, he received a call and when checked his application status online there was the official, in writing (which is what I like to see) acceptance with award amount.
Bravo to your S @trumpetmom99 !
I know my D would love to be in his position. Fantastic news.
Many congrats to your son @trumpetmom99!! You both must be so excited :).
For those waiting on Eastman, in true obsessed mom fashion today, after reading this news I looked at the Eastman admissions website. I found something called the Admissions Blog, in which there was an article about what to do while you’re waiting (reconnect with family and friends, they suggest!). But there was this little bit of info at the end: Eastman sends out notifications (they said emails) as they are finalized, not at the same time. Can be anytime between now and, heaven forbid, April 15th. The good news is that nobody should get discouraged if you haven’t heard anything yet!
Thanks @RKopera! Yes, that’s true. They made that very clear during the welcome/presentation/information session on audition day. Sigh!
Oh… Maybe old news then. I guess I either wasn’t listening or blocked it out!
No, it’s a great reminder. Thank you!
@trumpetmom99 Congratulations to you and your S! I was in the exact same boat as you two years ago. My S is a sophomore at Eastman in the same studio as @bigdjp 's son. It was a tough decision financially and of course you have to do what is best for your family. S did appeal his merit offer on the basis that he was offered more from his second choice school (not more $ but a greater percentage of the tuition). They increased it a little.
We were actually just out there this past Wednesday through Sunday to visit and attend some concerts. I have no regrets about sending him to Eastman. S is happy and thriving. My only ‘con’ is that we live halfway across the country so we don’t get to attend very many of his concerts.
My D got her acceptance phone call from Eastman about an hour ago. She’s over the moon!
@trumpetmom99 and @coloraturakid congrats to both your kids!
Thank you @DesignDad!
