<p>If it’s a well-written essay that reflects your personality and passions, then it should be a positive regardless of topic (within limits).</p>
<p>That said, while “sad” essays are fine, I would try not to be too depressing orgod forbidangsty. You might also want to end on a positive note if that’s possible or relevant.</p>
<p>Try to avoid dead grandma essays - but if you feel strongly that you must, then personalize the event as much as possible and don’t speak in general terms.</p>
