I know I can do good essays and decent to great recs.

you could do SUPER safties like University of Illionois or a good one might be University or Michigan. Maybe UNC. ?? I don't really know.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! UNC is not a safety for ANYBODy, especially out of state. American University, University of Vermont, Northeastern, BU(as you mentioned), Alfred University, Adelphia University, GWU(more of a match/safety), SUNY's, Pepperdine, Hampshire, Kalamazoo, Marlboro, UPittsburgh, Penn State, UConn, UMaryland.

Villanova and Notre Dame are excellent safeties...

toffee:

UCSD: Safe Match

heyhey what is this? how can anyone call Umaryland out of state a safety? Notre Dame is no one's safety. BU and GWU are not usually safeties with the number of applicants they get. Hampshire is never a safety, it's too small of a school, and if you don't fit their criteria you're not in. It's a stretch to call Pepperdine a safety.

so..namaste...got any schools that ARE safeties?

UMD-CP or BC is DEFINITELY a safety. I know someone who got in with like 3.3 one AP(senior year), no ECs, only library volunteering, 1200 SAT. His essay wasn't that great either. He was always worrying about his SAT score and he got in out-of-state. Btw he is asian(korean).

I don't think you can judge the chances of getting into a school based upon people who are, seemingly, outliers. For example, I know someone who was accepted to Penn with a 1270 and was not recruited for varsity athletics.

well this is UMD we are talking about. It's not some crazy IVY that is a crapshoot.

does this matter: i'm a CA resident, asian-american (taiwanese).

thanks for the safeties so far, guys. are they strong in english though? thanks!

bumping it up. is bryn mawr a good safety?

I've heard that UMD-CP likes to take out-of-state students, so that may have helped the person with low stats. Bryn Mawr is a good school. I would not normally call it a safety, except for people with great stats. However, you have some real achievements in writing and the arts, and they will probably love that. It's probably pretty safe.
