so my current GPA is a 3.65 (weighted) with SAT scores (the first time around) of:
670 - reading
570 - math
610 - writing
for a total of 1850. I hope to possibly a get a 1900 on the SAT when I take it again October 9th (I took the first one on a 5 hours of sleep... not a good idea, I know).
My activities within school include: school newspaper freshman year, key club sophomore year. I have worked the same job year round since August 2008. I am also very involved with my church and have been on many mission trips including ones to Virginia and Washington, D.C. I have also done community service on my own at my local nursing home. I did that this past summer, and for a year during my freshman year.

I have taken mainly honors classes in high school and academic electives. Currently, I am in AP Psychology. I plan on applying early action to :

-Stonehill College
-Roger Williams University
-Eastern Connecticut State University
-Marist College
-University of New Hampshire

if you can respond to ANY that would be wonderful

If anyone could post some reach schools that would be wonderful. I’m still kind of keeping my options open for extra schools, even this late in the game.

You sound a lot like me ahahah similar stats and extracurriculars. I can comment on 4/5

Stonehill College-match
Roger Williams University-low match, my brother goes there and loves it. really great school
Eastern Connecticut State University-in state? safety
Marist College-match, really popular for my high school, everyone seems to like it

Thanks a ton! And I would major in Business Mdminstration probably. Looking at Health Care Administration but it’s only offered at UNH and Stonehill. All my applications are in so now I’m just waiting…

Thank you! I appreciate everyone’s help with this. Right now I kind of need the confidence because I just HATE waiting. And good luck to anyone that’s applying to college this year

You sound very similar to my daughter and I personally like your list. Like you, she’s applying to UNH and Roger Williams. I wanted her to consider Marist & Stonehill; and she did look at them on paper, but ruled them out. She really loves the idea of a 5-year co-op program, so she’s applying to Northeastern & Drexel.

It looks to me like Roger Williams & UNH are safeties for you; Marist & Stonehill are either fits or slight reaches – definitely not out of the question. I’m unfamiliar with Eastern Connecticut. And it sounds like you went early action and have already applied? That’s a great strategic move (and one my daughter also made.)

Thanks. And am I correct in assuming your daughter is from the northeast? I’ve heard Northeastern’s program is really awesome, though I’m personally not a fan of the idea of a co-op (though I know many people that love it). And ECSU is one of those schools no one seems to know about, but it’s really nice (especially for a state school, not there’s anything wrong with that) and the price tag is fantastic. Best of luck to your daughter and I hope she gets in to her schools. BTW, what other schools is she thinking of?

My sons stats are also similar and we are from CT. He really likes Marist. He also applied to Providence College and Fairfield University. He already got accepted at Siena using their Fast Forward application. Once all his information was in, he received an answer within a week and received a merit scholarship. The amount will be communicated this month. For a private school, their tuition and room and board of approximately $37,000 is not as outrageous as similar schools. Good luck with your college search!

Yup, we’re in NH. In addition to Northeastern, UNH, Roger Williams and Drexel, my daughter strongly considered Endicott (in Beverly, MA). Gorgeous campus, small-ish, great dorms, a required internship (I think?), but she recently decided that she wants to major in math and they don’t offer that. She’s also looking at Castleton State in Vermont: small, rural, lovely campus, lots of majors. She has considered majoring in musical theatre, music, business/finance and psychology (not necessarily in that order), so it’s pretty clear that she needs to go to a school with lots of different majors.

She’s also toying with the idea of applying to Bentley where she’s a legacy. They offer math. But I think she really wants Northeastern and figures if she doesn’t get accepted there, it’ll be easier to transfer into Northeastern from Bentley than from Roger Williams.

Sounds like you have a lot thought out. The one thing I know about Bentley is that they are a very business centered school (most of their majors are pretty much all business related). Which is awesome if your daughter is completely sure she wants to get some sort of business degree. I was actually going to apply there until I realized that my choice of majors was going to be limited if I decided to switch out of being a business major. They do have a wonderful reputation as a business and math based school, though. You’re probably right about it being easier to transfer to Northeastern from there. College stuff is just so complicated haha

Oh yeah, I forgot to update my scores. Same score in math (570, which I was expecting because it’s not my strong point), 700 in reading, and 640 in writing, I think that brings my best scores overall to 1910.

Forgot to mention: the UNH admissions rep came to our high school’s “College Night” (for seniors & their parents) and stated that if you live in NH and have at least a B+ average, you’ll be accepted. The bar is higher if you’re out-of-state.

Daughter just got her 1st acceptance (from Drexel – they have rolling admissions)!!!

And Roger Williams seemed to indicate that she’d have no problem getting in. (We attended their Open House this past weekend.)

And recall, this is a kid with stats very similar to yours… (combined SAT 1900 and 3.4 weighted GPA).

Yay for your daughter! That’s awesome. Just got my letter of acceptance from Eastern Connecticut (they have rolling admissions, also) so it’s nice to know I’m going somewhere next year. A Roger Williams official attended a college fair at my school today and he said that I have a decent shot at a merit scholarship with my stats, so your daughter hopefully will, too. He also thinks around late December as far as when letter are going to be sent out, but he didn’t seem completely sure. Best of luck!

Thanks, futureundergrad! Daughter just heard from Northeastern’s EA decisions: deferred. She’s not too happy… (though much happier than if she had been denied!) But it looks like she’s going to be stressing with most of the rest of her class. I’m kinda glad it’s not my decision because I find myself really torn between wanting her to get into the Honors College program at Roger Williams, yet I can see how majoring in math and minoring in musical theatre at Northeastern would be a great fit for her. I think she’d love the campus vibe at Roger Williams far better, but there’s no musical theatre minor. On the other hand, it sounded like she could have a minor in theatre or music, and still get take a fair amount of courses in that 3rd interest area.

Looks like life is going to be interesting. Hope you hear (positively) from your 1st choice early!!!
