Again, guillaume, you make a claim based on complete conjecture. Don't argue with me about admissions data - I will crush you. And don't come and call here and call me elitist and arrogant - your childish remarks and reasoning further weaken your credibility and your position.

buuurrrrrnnn.

Oh, and guillaume:
a) by calling UVA student's snobbish and such, you're basically calling VT people snobbish too because I applied to, chose, and went to VT over others...so obviously since i'm a snob now, i must've been one before too! sarcasm...anyways, your comments are low and dumb. and unhelpful. so, just leave. how did you get in here in the first place?
b) your name is too hard to type

Also, this is going to be a low blow and I don't want to hear about it because I believe I have the ability to say this. But, as far as the arrogant, snobby comments made: didn't Cho cause the h#ll down there as a result of everyone else being arrogant and jerks around him?

Like I said before, snobs/arrogant jerks/etc exist everyone. By singling out UVA as being comprised entirely of them, it's like saying everyone in Iraq is a terroist, or everyone from Ireland should be tall and red-headed, or every black person eats fried chicken, or all engineers should be boys. They're all stereotypes, and all 99% wrong. So stop it.

"how did you get in here in the first place?"

Is the UVA cc thread a private club??

Yes, yes it is. No Homers allowed. We already have one, go away.

I rest my case

What case did you have again?

More like, what are you doing here?

Oh wait, I'll answer that: to be an arrogant, useless jerk who tries to make us UVA kids feel bad that we go here. Even though we don't, because we know who we are, and that is successful, strong-minded, determined kids who will make something of themselves in life. But, for someone preaching about the whole "you're arrogant blahblahblah", you're exhibiting some signs yourself. GOSH! You must've graduated from UVA! cough cough

Sv3a: even the engineer is still figuring this one out. What I find hilarious is that I actually WENT and LIVED at VT for a year, and now go here, and guillame's facts/thoughts/blatently ignorant statements are so untrue. But maybe us arrogant UVA snobs don't understand the arrogant VT hicks.

Goodness gracious! This thread took a turn since I last looked at it.

Guillaume, I'm not sure why, as an adult, you'd bother arguing with some students over a point on which you obviously will never agree. Most grown ups would have moved on or not even bothered with your original post.

Let's just move on. UVa and VT are both, in general, wonderful schools with wonderful students who are very loyal. Both schools also have flaws and people who care about addressing them.

I don't mean to drag this out, but shoebox10, I don't care if you went to Tech for a year and feel you are justified, bringing up the April 16th tragedy is completely innappropriate. Firstly, he had a mental disorder not caused, as you seem to think, by people being arrogant and jerks. You're calling guillame ignorant and yet you turn around and say something just as misinformed and ignorant. Bringing up the tragedy to defend an argument that UVA is better than Tech is really just disgusting. Both are fine instutions, and yes there is a rivalry but we should just keep it a friendly one without all the nastiness flying around, and especially without vicious references to April 16th. And I don't know who you met, shoebox, but just about every single person I've met on this campus is warm and friendly.

hokiegirl:
1. his letters said he did those things as a result of everyone around him being rude, judgmental, and hateful towards him.
2. someone coming on here and bashing my school is really disgusting.
3. it wasn't a vicious reference, it was a point made through analysis. I know it's hurtful and wrong to think about, but it's true, and more people in this world need to stop dancing around and truly see connections like I made. Doctors and professionals have made these comments as well, but because I'm just a stupid kid I don't know what I'm talking about.
4. I loved people I met at VT. There were arrogant jerks though there. I love people I meet at UVA. There are arrogant jerks here too.

I'm wondering if people read the article in today's Cavalier Daily entitled "Protect Yourself" which I thought raised some excellent points about the need for UVA and the Charlottesville Police to work together for a more aggressive and effective response to the crime problem in the area. Repeating the same old mantras of being alert, walking in groups, and trusting ones instincts; while helpful, does not really deal with the core issue of crime prevention.

That was the reason he gave, yes. But he had a mental disorder that made him antisocial and unnapproachable. How were people supposed to be friendly to him when he wouldn't even respond when people talked to him? And judging from the people I know here, the majority of them I'm sure were not at all rude, judgemental, and hateful toward him. That was just his perception because people didn't approach him.
Someone bashing UVA is not even on the level of bringing up a tragedy to try and win and argument. Tech bashes UVA all the time and UVA bashes Tech, it's just a rivalry. I admit that guillame was a bit childish and it is better for us to be rivals in a fun, non-hurtful way. Let's just agree that both are great schools with overall nice people.

Hey, we all just got a rightly deserved spanking from Dean J.
I can agree with you hokiegirl307--both are great schools and anything human will have it's pitfalls as well, be it in CVL or B'burg.
I'm not gonna read or write on this thread anymore. Bye.

can i say one little thing( as an adult??? debatable at times ;) ) Dean J ?...............WAHOOWA !!!!! you know you all rock...

ummmmm free speech. just... don't even go there. because i can say what i wish. you can choose to ignore me if you're so big on ignoring things you don't like.

i love this board

Wanna play the free speech card? Oh lets do. There you go AGAIN with the Hazeldom crap! "I Hazel can pick on any one I want b/c I am senior here and I am entitled to free speech. The rest of you OTOH must live by my rules cuz I'm Hazel." Nobody can ask a repeat question or ask for a link, cuz I'm Hazel. Don't ask w/o google cuz I'm Hazel.

Okeydokey Dweeb.......You harrass another person who is looking for information on this board and I will engage you in all sorts of free speech. Wanna know how much everyone appreciates ol Hazel???? Take a look at that "charming" Beta Bridge invitation you extended. Its been days but nobody said "it looks great" or "see you there" b/c you are an obnoxious fool.
Just my free speech Hazel..............
I have asked you nicely to stop, I have begged prettily. Now Game On!

Bring it~

I hope that you all know how ridiculous you sound. As a prospective student (and life-long UVA fan), I check this board often to keep up with the news at UVA. I have always been slightly unnerved by the elitism I see on CC in general and in particular on this board. I, too, have been discouraged from posting (until now) on this board because I have never felt that questions to students were wholly welcome. Most of the chances threads on this board have responses like "just read the results threads from last year, can't you use the search function?!" or other exasperated responses. Do you really think that makes the potential applicant feel welcome or excited about UVA? The students in the other college forums I visit are always helpful, informative, and they certainly don't carry on threads like this one. I understand that you must be frustrated with people asking the same questions over and over, but you are not required to answer these questions.

Reading through this thread, I got the impression that some of you never quite left high school behind. Some of the things you have said to each other are unnecessarily demeaning, childish, and just plain stupid. Your Virginia Tech comments are absolutely unacceptable. I have friends who are Tech fans and we kid each other about the rivalry all the time. However, the difference is that our joking does not have the hatred and elitism that is evident in your postings in this thread. It does not matter who started the argument or what that person said; I am shocked that some of you retaliated the way you did. I would have thought that by now you would have learned that sometimes it is best not to say anything at all. As students, you are representatives of the university. Please keep in mind that there are prospective students reading everything you post.

Do not accuse me of just being a UVA-hater; that is simply not the case. I really do love UVA with all my heart and this has not changed my overall opinion of the school. I still consider it one of my top choices, and should I be lucky enough to be admitted to UVA this spring, you can be sure that I will remember this thread and the way it reflected on UVA as I consider my options.

hey guys~ this isn't on topic, but then, neither is a lot of this thread. please put this in the proper perspective, and if you need help with that, go see my thread, "Youth,Stress and Suicide". i just came from a 17 year-old's wake....i know this may sound like a sermon, but take in the day and live it to your fullest. it IS a gift.

Hey, I liked his bridge. I just didn't want to say anything because I was bitter about leaning on the other side and having paint all over my arms for two days...grrr
