I'm currently in a four-year college that I don't really care for and I'm considering transferring to SAIC. I'm just wondering what the environment is like at SAIC. Is everyone serious all the time and really into their artwork or are there some parties and things like that? Is there a little downtime during the week or is it more constant work? Any insight into the kind of environment that it is would be really appreciated.

Also, does anyone know how good the fashion design program at SAIC is?

Thank you so much for anything you can tell me. :)

My DD went there for several courses. Its very time intensive. Students who make it spend alot of time in studio working on projects. DD worked every day from 9 am to 10 pm on one of her courses. She choose a university setting instead of an art school only. Students at SAIC Often work to wee hours of the morning. Not much party time from what i hear. Columbia art students are nearby and I think there are some opportunities for club crawls with them.

well, my friend transferred from SVA to SAIC and she loves it there. But they dont give out grades like other universities, it’s a check or check plus. As with any art school it will be time consuming and there will be emphasis on studio art. As for their fashion program, I can’t help you there. You should look for schools that have a distinguishing fashion program, because I haven’t heard/read anything about it.
