I am an Italian student (from the Univeristy of Bologna) who has applied to Johns Hopkins Bologna Center. I will have my interview on March 6th with Professor Michael Plummer.

Does anyone have some good hints about what to expect?

I have been spending thisyear at UCLA as an exchange student, spent one quarter in Washington interning at the Nixon Center and writing a research paper, done an internship at the Italian Representation to the European Union, I have been town councilor in Italy for 4 years. My grades are pretty good (30/30, following the Italian system, which basically means a 4.0 GPA). I am now finishing my laurea specialistica which is basically a master and writing my final dissertation on the U.S.-China relations on the energy issue, mi main field of interest.
I thought to mention everything in my interview, but this is basically what they can find on my CV so I was wondering how to make it better.

Thanks for your help!
rubracoeli is online now

Hi!
I am also having the interview for SAIS Bologna Center, but on Monday 9th.
I agree it would be great to know some hints about the contents of the interview, duration, issues, expected questions…
How did you know that your interviewer will be Professor Plummer? Did you recieve the an e-mail with arrangement details or so?

Hi!
I applied for Bologna’s SAIS too. I indicated to be interviewed by phone. But now I’m confused… Haven’t heard of the admission body since I submitted all the papers. I have no idea if phone int-ews r supposed to be held the last or it’s just I’m not accepted. But anyway, I was wandering how your interviews went. What you, guys, were asked and told and all this kind of things. I’d really appreciate any info…

Hi
The interview was nearly 1 hour long. First, it started with the evident and expected questions: why you want to do it, why do you think you fit, your background, etc…
After that, we kicked off a half an hour conversation about international issues related to my personal interests coming from my application. That was just to verify your knowledge and motivation.
And, at the end, candidate questions.
The interview was conducted by a faculty member.
If I were you, I would send immediately an e-mail to the Center, or directly call, asking for your interview case, for I was told admission decisions will be made at the end of march, just in 2-3 weeks!
Good luck! (for we both!)

My interview was half an hour long, but followed exactly the same path of Vidal’s one. As far as I know, interviews are guaranteed to every non American student, but I don’t know the policy for U.S. citizens…surely calling them is the best choice.

Vidal, sorry if I did not answer you but I was pretty busy…anyway, yes, I got an e-mail with all the info.

Hi Lyaysan!
Did you contact with them? Did you manage to get the interview at the end? I hope everything went allright.
By the way, does anyone know how we are going to recieve the response? Also by e-mail or by post only? They say it comes at the end of March, but I can’t wait anymore…!

@Vidal: unfortunately I cannot go, I am in the US right now…hopefully they will put the material online, so there will be a chance to look at it. By the way, when did you receive the communication about the date of the Open House? I got nothing about it…

@Collegeconf27: I still don’t know about financial aid. I guess it would be a good idea for you to call Bologna in order to get an answer. Good luck!

I submit the whole appication at the end of January. I sent an e-mail to verify the arrival, and they told everything was OK and my application was admitted in the process (that was on January 30th).
