Okay, so they don't require an essay for this scholarship, but there is a special circumstances sections where they say: "please list any additional special circumstances or events that you believe judges should know in considering your application."

Is this an area where you could write an essay about yourself, or are they specifically looking for "special circumstance" like a death in the family or something like that.

My DS has pulled the application for this also. I think that they are asking if there is anything that they should know that isn’t already in your application as to why you need the scholarship. Like any hardships or special circumstances. It doesn’t really have an essay prompt for a regular essay. So if there is anything you want to explain this would be the place to do it. Hopefully others will have some more feedback for you as well so you can be sure you are doing this correctly.

I looked back over the printed copy of D’s submitted application. Special Circumstances is a heading colored the same as Financial Information, Parent Information, Future Plans, Activities, and Academic Information. There are subheadings in a different color under these main headings. I would take this to mean that the special circumstances could relate to any of the main headings. I don’t take it to mean an “about me” essay unless it’s the best way to tie together several categories of special circumstances. Just my opinion, though.

S won this scholarship two years ago without listing any special circumstances. Our income is very lower-middle class or upper-low class. :)

Also, when you have to list the classes you’ve taken and what grades you got in them, should you list the status as completed and input what my grade was last semester, or keep the status as in progress?

3coolcats, my solution was to list the class as “in progress” and list the 1st semester grade and Honors / AP status. Not sure if that was quite what they wanted (they seemed to ask for in progress, NA, NA), but it’s how I best expressed my qualifications.

I thought this scholarship was due by 12 midnight ET but it says 5 PM central time, and although it allowed me to register the application is not popping up. I guess it’s closed: (
