San Diego State has been rated the #1 party school in the nation by PLAYBOY. I heard it on the radio while driving today. No, really, it was on the radio.

wow. I thought it would be UCSB or Cal State Chico.

Man, I just can't believe that Virginia's own, Virginia Tech Hokies didn't make that list....................LOL!

SDSU WAS rated number 1 by Playboy back in the early or mid 80's. Things have calmed down a bit since then, but it's still not exactly a convent. :)

We here in Madison are humbled--thankfully.

TD, are we interested in enrolling?

I think that link may be to last year's rankings; I recall some mention of Arizona State and thought of a doleful father I know.

CD, no worries, I went to UC Santa Barbara, which was the other California in the Top 10 this year...not that I took sufficient advantage of it. It being a local radio station, they didn't mention the other eight...so Tsdad may not have to feel so humbled afterall.

When it comes to the ranking on this issue I can assure you that UW's administrators would preferred to be humbled. They hated, hated, hated the PR designation.

Here's an article about it:

Looks like it's in the top 10 but with no particular order.

While I sympathize with the UW administration, a tradition that goes back at least 50 years,if not further, is hard to change. The key difference between UW and other party schools is that most UW students take school seriously--most of the time.
But the commitment to good times and pretty, ahhhhh, easy going sexual attitudes, is, I think, unique to Madison. I have spent time on several other major campuses and they pale in comparison.

I was in a bar in Madison once and saw a sign behind the bar that said, "Ask us about our 'Elmer Fuddsucker'."

As my tongue and teeth failed to collaborate in even silently mouthing the words, I decided that I'd had enough.

The cheapest buzz I found other than beer was the infamous "Rocket Fuel" at the late lamented Jocko's Rocket Ship. ( now a swank martini bar) One was enough. Now they have the Fish Bowl at Wando's but that's for a group, I hope. The bartenders at the original Buck's used to start pouring large glasses of straight scotch as the night wore on but now the new place is tame.

This thread appears to attract primarily geezers ? What's up with that? ;)

Geez. Work. Straight home and then on to the gym and then to TV and bed. "Fish Bowl at Wanda's" indeed.

Prefer to be called the last great generation.

Arizona States rep was sealed a few years ago (D was on campus then) when a frat boy (frat since banned) participated in the filming of a porn movie and part of a scene was shot in a frat bathroom.
Current University President Crow is trying hard to move the frats/shut down the frats/condemn the properties/emminent domain the land.He seems to be succeeding.
Theres alot of accessibility to sunshine, hanging out outside, pools, bars,Mexico, road trips to Vegas.Whether its worse there than other places, who knows? The perception is there.

It apparently takes more than just a porn movie to develop a lasting party school reputation. UCSD had a porn movie scandal a while ago where a student not only filmed and starred in his own porn movie but also aired it on the UCSD student TV station:

Yet despite these misadventures, UCSD retains its reputation as a no-fun place for serious scholars.

CathyMee, has he tried putting the frats on double secret probation?

how about u of a? isnt it party school
