So San Diego State is a reach school for me but I’m just wondering if I have any chance at all of getting in. I have a 3.69 CSU unweighted GPA and a 4.08 CSU weighted GPA and a 4.0 CSU weighted and capped GPA. I haven’t gotten my results for the SAT yet because I just took it two days ago. By the end of my senior year I will have taken 10 AP classes and 9 honors classes. I have passed all the AP exams I have taken so far (and I have never/will never not take an AP exam for an AP class). My grades have also been getting better and better each year of high school (I’m a junior), and I got all As last semester and have all As right now. I also do a lot of extracurriculars and community service and have a lot of leadership roles, but I don’t know if SDSU values that much. I plan on applying to major in Public Administration or Women’s Studies, maybe both. Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated
I’m also a Hispanic female from Illinois. Not that that’s important but one of the reasons I wanted to go to SDSU was because it has a large Hispanic community and I’ve been disconnected from that part of myself for a while.
I think you have a good chance.
- You have a strong upward trend in grades that will help make up for your current GPA.
- The AP classes show you are a dedicated student.
- You’re applying to majors that are probably less popular which might give you a small admissions boost.
I’m also considering applying to UC Davis as a Women Studies or an International Relations major, do you think I would have a good chance there as well?
I’m assuming your instate and if so you definitely have a chance if you keep your grades up and get your SAT into at least the 25th percentile for the school. However, UC admissions can be crazy so it’s far from a guarantee. -oops just saw your from Illinois, everything I said holds true, just remember college admissions is really volatile!
Thanks for your help!
No problem!
SDSU like all the Cal states are test blind for the 2022 admission cycle. EC’s are not considered in their admission review but OOS is an advantage since you will be a full pay applicant at around $43K/year with no financial aid. SDSU also does not consider race/ethnicity in their application review.
Your GPA looks competitive so best of luck.
Not to derail your SDSU post, UC Davis would be a slight Reach school and also test blind but they will consider your EC’s. Again, you will be a full pay applicant at $65K/ year to attend with no financial aid so make sure this is affordable.
2020 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCD: 55%
2020 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCD: 4.11 (3.97-4.25)
i think you will get into SDSU but, it will be absurdly expensive as an OOS student. I would also apply to USD, LMU and Chapman - all So Cal privates that are likely to offer merit aid that will make them much more affordable options.
Apply broadly and good luck.
