My D just requested her AP scores on the 18th and also chose regular delivery. That should be enough time.
It states that it needs to be postmarked by 5/1, but never hurts to call and double for peace of mind
FYI in case you were not aware for some majors there are required tests to take if you did not take an AP class or CC class. For instance for Mech Eng you have to test for Math 150 and Chem 220. They test at SDSU and a few other campus’ that might be more local to where you are. Make sure you sign up sooner rather than later as you dont want any hiccups in your registration of classes at orientation. Just thought I’d put it out there since not everyone may be aware of it. My son is taking the chem test this weekend at SDSU.
How do you find out which tests you need to take for your major?
@Luthien:
Here is the website and information: http://go.sdsu.edu/student_affairs/orientation/freshman-placement-exams.aspx
Also check My map for 4 year course plans by major: https://sunspot.sdsu.edu/pubred/!mymap.disp
@Gumbymom @Bean981 Any idea how difficult the placement tests are? Are they harder easier than AP or CLEP exams? Daughter is a bio major, hasn’t taken AP Chem for over a year. We are out of state so would need to get the test proctored and ideally dyslexia accommodations instituted. Is there an issue if she just chose to take ChemI?
Do you not need to take the tests if you have done the introductory courses at a community college?
@texcalmom: My son at SDSU was not required to take the Chem placement exam since he opted to do the Physics series instead for his CS major. He also used AP credit for both Calc 1 and 2 so no experience with the Math placement exam.
My other son took both exams for UC Davis and neither subject was his favorite and passed with no problem. Probably worth some review. If she does not want to take the Chem placement exam, she could start with Chem 100 as stated in this information:
http://www.chemistry.sdsu.edu/courses/CHEM200/200_Placement_exam.php
Sample Chem exam: http://www.chemistry.sdsu.edu/courses/CHEM200/200_Sample_placement_exam_2009.pdf
Here is information specifically for the Math Placement test: https://studentaffairs.sdsu.edu/testofc/precalc_prof_assessment.htm
If you are OOS, you could have her take the placement exams during her Freshman orientation since it looks like they give an extended deadline of August 24, 2018.
@Gumbymom if you have taken the chemistry and math courses at a community college and passed do you not need to take the tests?
I just noticed D’s portal has changed. The Required for Admission section no longer includes any mention of AP scores. Before it said last year’s AP scores needed 5/1 and this year’s by 7/15. Also there used to be a requirement for final high school transcript needed by 7/15 which is now missing. Strange. Anyone else seeing these portal changes?
@Banker1 Yeah, the section for Final HS transcripts and AP scores has disappeared from my portal as well. I sent my AP scores a few weeks ago, so this probably shows that they got it.
@gothic82: If the Chemistry and Math courses are CSU transferable and fulfill the same requirements as AP Chemistry and Calculus AB or BC, then you should not have to take the placement exams. I would still contact SDSU Academic Advising to confirm.
@banker1 & @barebodkin if you look at the portal under highschool transcript it says “Required - Partial Transcript Received, Will Be Required to Provide Final Transcript” Just make sure to request it prior to graduation and hold for final grades. It isn’t broken out on another line like before. Our AP also disappeared. If you are taking any AP exams this year just make sure that you put the school code on your form and they will automatically send when the scores are done for free.
@texcalmom check out the page as at the bottom it lists information for accommodations on testing. You may need to contract them if she needs to take one. Check out the sample test. My son took honors Chem and he seemed to think it wasn’t too bad when looking at the sample test. If you dont want to test then she can take the chem 100 or take that at a community college over the summer that will transfer to SDSU.
Is the placement test for chemistry and calculus only? What about Language Arts and other subjects?
Are y’all going to bring parent(s) to the orientation? ;
@Bean981 Ok thanks. They still haven’t updated her portal to indicate if the partial transcript has been received. But now there is only one section called High School Transcripts and it says Official Transcript Required with deadline to submit of 5/1. We’ll give them an extra day or two to update this correctly.
If I am taking classes at a CC this semester to get some prerequisites out of the way, if I send them to SDSU before the deadline will this get me out of taking them fall semester? Because we register for classes very
Soon after the deadline so would this show me as exempt from the classes I already took? Or would not enough time pass for this to show
@cswave it should since you have to send by 7/15. Chances are they will send by end of may and you should see them on your unofficial transcript before orientation. The units that were already sent for the may deadline are already showing up on the transcript when I looked the other day but only as units since they didnt count for any classes at SDSU.
