San Diego State University

What is the likely hood of getting accepted to San Diego State University if I am out of state and got a 23 on my act but am working to improve it the next time I take it?

GPA please… or else no CSUs for you.

Currently I have around a 2.9 but am a junior and looking for it to go up after this semester to maybe a 3.1

avi2claire25: SDSU uses a eligibility index to rank therir applicants. For the ACT the calculation is
your (CSU/UC GPA x 200) + (10 x ACT composite). You should aim for at least 900+ to be competitive.
With a GPA of 3.1 and an ACT of 23 your EI=850. Average GPA last year was 3.74 and ACT of 25. I would say it is a reach.

Agree, definitely a high reach. A better SAT/ACT would improve chances dramatically though

How different is the CSU GPA calculations from other states? I live in Ohio

What state are you from? The farther away and the more unusual the better. As with most all California public colleges, they are inundated with applicants and people taking more than four years to graduate is very common. San Diego, of course, is heaven, so getting more and more popular.

For California, the UC/CSU GPA is only Soph/Junior grades with 8 extra points for up to (8 semesters of AP and/or UC approved Honors classes). For out of state, only AP classes can be used for the extra points. If you go onto the CSU Mentor website, there is a GPA calculator you can use.

Ohio, so its a good thing I am so far away? What can I do so that I will stand out?

On the CSU application, there are no essays and only a few questions about EC’s (you can’t even list them/ just the hours). Only way you can stand out is to have a HIGH GPA and TEST Scores. Being out of state may help since they are looking for higher paying students. Good Luck

Bad news - it is highly unlikely you’ll be admitted. As others note above, SDSU uses a simple formula to determine admission. It is based solely on your college prep GPA and test scores. Though all the responses aren’t out, it looks like they drew the line this year at a little over 4100 SAT and around 940 ACT. They generally hold out of state applicants to a slightly higher standard. with a 3.0 GPA, you’d need a near perfect ACT to make the cut.

Other CSUs in the So Cal area you’d probably get into are San Marcos, Channel Islands and perhaps Northridge.

Good luck
