San Diego State

Hello all! I am currently a Freshman in High School(Yes I know I’m a little young)but I was wondering when SDSU starts looking at your grades? First of all you should know I’m from Minnesota so I’m Out of State obviously. I have a 3.75 CSU GPA and was wondering if they looked at your grades from 9th grade in High School? Thanks and Go Aztecs!

SDSU is getting extremely competitive when it comes to incoming freshman. You have a solid GPA but shoot for above a 4.0 and take as many AP classes you can take in order to be a legitimate candidate. Also remember that they receive 80,000+ applicants a year and those numbers have been increasing every year so I recommend doing everything in your power to make yourself stick out from the rest of the crowd. Students are getting rejected with GPA’s of a little less than a 4.0. I don’t mean to scare you but am instead trying to encourage you. Also, a tip from someone who’s been through it, get the best grades you can possible and apply to as many schools as you can that you would enjoy attending. Good luck with your future endeavors!

SDSU will use your 10-11th grades for their CSU GPA calculation. As an OOS applicant, only AP/IB or DE courses during 10-11th grades will count for the extra honors points. 9th grades will be reviewed to make sure you meet the a-g course requirements but are not used in the GPA calculation.

SDSU uses the eligibility index to rank applicants for each major.

Here is the calculation: (CSU GPA x800) + (SAT Math+CR) or (CSU GPA x200) + (ACT comp x10).
An EI of 4100+ SAT or 1000+ ACT will be competitive. Just remember each year SDSU gets increasingly more competitive and the EI’s will fluctuate yearly depending upon the stat of the in-coming Freshman class.
