***san jose state 2022 admissions thread***

@collegecraze122 UGH I agree. I good use some good news rn :confused: but San Jose still seems to want to wait

We had the same issue - entered In Progress for senior English class under fall semester, but not spring (wrongly assuming that by entering under fall it would be calculated/counted as a full year in progress - as the class was full year). Got rejected from CSULA in early Dec. and luckily had a contact in admissions who told us what was went wrong (1 semester English short due to above-mentioned reporting error). We freaked out as we applied at 5 CSU (including SJSU) and the error would - in theory - result in auto rejections from all. Contacted Cal Apply - no help. Appeal to CSULA - successful. Contacted the 2 Cal Polys and SDSU - both were great and allowed us to submit transcript and explanation of the error. SJSU admissions office staff were not as accommodating and basically said too bad, wait until rejected and appeal. Really turned us off to the university as a whole. There has to be a better - and more consistent - way to remedy such an error. Its not like we were asking to correct a typo in an essay - this was serious! Have yet to hear from any CSUs (besides CSULA which again, we appealed), so we are on pins and needles. Good luck all.

2nd year at CC. I applied as a Software Engineering major. I completed golden four, 1 physics, 1 bio, calc 1 2 3, and in linear algebra but my application was “Withdrawn Unaccommodated”. GPA 3.95 overall. I guess the only thing that could make sense for why I got rejected was that I still needed to complete Differential Equations and a second Physics class before the end of Spring and the crazy impaction for the most competitive major at SJSU which is Software Engineering. The crazy thing is that I ended up changing my major 2 days after application deadlines to MIS. And even then I will be completing almost every requirement for MIS before Fall 2018. I have already completed Micro and Macro both with A’s. Before Fall 2018 I will have completed Micro, Macro, Business Law, Statistics, Financial Accounting, and Business Programming. The only class I would need to do in Fall 2018 is Managerial Accounting. I deeply regret applying as Software Engineering knowing that if I applied as MIS I would’ve gotten accepted. I want to appeal and say that I changed my major 2 days after deadlines closed but I’m really depressed and don’t know what to do. Kind of praying that I can appeal or hope that SJSU is open for Winter transfers. Please I need advice on what to write in my appeal!

@alg1415 check with your CC. If they are local, they often have contacts in admissions and will know what SJSU is looking for in an appeal. They also usually have agreements with each other about transfers which could be helpful. Good luck!

@alg1415 hey bro, I just checked my portal. I had the same result with u, but I already been in cc 3 years. so I need to be in cc one more year~ SO I ALSO WANT TO KNOW DOES SJSU ACCEPT SPRING SEMESTER?

@Rottgrrl The SJSU admissions department has a bad reputation on-campus. Most people have no contact with the admissions department after they matriculate. However, it is not reflective of the whole school in general. Me and several other people I know have zero regrets of coming here. I’m not implying that you should attend SJSU, but rather just to give you some hope that it may be the school for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I am really depressed, especially after the fact that I put so much into my GPA. But even at a 3.95 it’s my fault for applying as a software engineering major. So I really need to appeal this decision, is there anybody with any additional advice for an appeal in my situation? Also does anyone know is SJSU is accepting Spring transfers?

Yes, they do accept spring, I just checked it. But I think we need to earn an ADT probably.

@alg1415 Your GPA is good for Software Engineering. According to their Fall 2018 impaction results, “Applicants who completed four course requirements were admitted above a 3.30 GPA. This major did not have the enrollment capacity to admit applicants with fewer than four course requirements completed.” The four course requirements are Math 30 (Calculus I), Math 31 (Calculus II), Physics 50 (General Physics/Mechanics), and Computer Science/Software Engineering 46A (Introduction to Programming) for Software Engineering. Did you take a course equivalent to their CS 46A?

Yes I go to Ohlone college I completed CS116A which is Object-Oriented Programming Using C++. When I appeal, I’m not planning on doing a sob story or anything of the nature. I do want to mention that I truly did have a change in heart and changed my major to MIS only a couple days after they closed registration. I need help writing an appeal please any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I hope they are indeed open for Spring transfer is there anyone who can confirm this and provide proof? Thank you so much in advance!

@Rottgrrl They SJSU admissions dude was a tad rude to me about a week ago, when I called on behalf of my D. Just wanted to ask him if she should check her freshman English submission since SDSU had issues with the name of the class and made her go back into the doc and change it. He wouldn’t even listen to me–cut me off and said that if it wasn’t done correctly she would just be rejected and that was that. Hmmmm

So I’m a little confused have any freshman applicants gotten their decisions, or has it only been transfers so far?

@caligirl24 so far transfers have only received their decisions. Freshman have not yet received theirs.

@sravya107 thanks

SJSU really seems to have dropped the ball and people employed there don’t seem very student friendly. Glad my son has other options…

Same here. My D is interested in SJSU primarily b/c it’s close to home by train (1 hour) and she’s nervous about moving further away. She applied to Biology, and will probably get in (just got into UC Riverside Biology) but not much info on how good SJSU Biology even is. I’m more concerned about housing after Freshman year for her–pretty sure she would do better in residential housing for as many years as she can get it, and SJSU def has a housing shortage. So the longer SJSU waits to admit, the less interested we are, especially since the other UC’s are releasing admissions this week and next.

I just called SJSU admissions and talked to a nicer person about when decisions would roll out. He said they’ve been sending out decisions already and would continue through March. I asked him if there was a particular order and he said “transfers and rejections are going out first.” So I guess no news is good news? Wish I could get something more specific.
