San Jose State Class of 2023 - Applicant Thread

I just wanted to start a thread for new applicants. Good luck everyone!

Thanks! We are impatiently waiting… My son logs on everyday

I’m nervous, nervous, nervous. I applied to the Animation/Illustration program. 3.77 CSU GPA and 1380 SAT/33 ACT :-<

Last year the EI impaction was 4100 for that. Yours is over 4300. Obviously there are no guarantees for any of us but it looks like you stand a good chance. Try to relax.

I think a part of it is I don’t completely understand where the EI impaction thresholds come from. Is it the lowest EI accepted in the previous year? Is it a hard cutoff or does it represent the most likely outcome? Did everyone with an EI above that number get accepted any everyone with an EI below get rejected? What is the meaning of life? (I don’t except anyone to know the answer to this questions, lol, I’m just speculating).

Breathe!!
I believe in that given year, everybody applying to that specific major who had EI above the impaction threshold got accepted. It changes from year to year but usually hasn’t fluctuated too much for most majors. 100-200 points with some years staying the same. I haven not checked your major in detail but you could do that as SJSU has listed it going back several years.

Is anyone familiar with the difficulty of switching majors upon acceptance?

@bayarea613: The difficulty of switching majors depends upon your target major.

public health to biological sciences w a focus in systems physiology…

@bayarea613: Since acceptances are not out yet for SJSU, I would first contact admissions to see if you can change your major prior to your acceptance however the EI threshold for Biology is quite a bit higher than Public Health.

If you are accepted and want to change your major to Biology:

All students interested in declaring a degree or different concentration within Biological Sciences must first register for and attend a Change of Major Workshop. This is an informational workshop that details important information about the degree and the College of Science and the process for declaring the major. Please do not schedule an appointment with an advisor prior to attending the Change of Major workshop.

Are you guys anticipating receiving admissions in February or March? I know last year’s was delayed and I wouldn’t be surprised if this year’s was too, especially considering they pushed the application deadline back.

My portal just showed that i have been provisionally admitted, anybody else who got provisionally admitted?

Anyone got admissions decisions yet?

Still decision pending

^

I got in for fall 2019 software engineering major.

@snapealways123: Congratulations and glad to know your EI of 4350 was high enough this year. Best of luck.

My portal’s showing admitted by self reported date for animation!!!

@snapealways123 Do you mind sharing what your EI was? My son has applied for the same major but his EI was borderline.

@OceanRF: @snapealaways123 posted on another thread their EI was 4350.
