San Jose State University Class of 2019 Decisions Thread

Is there a thread for transfers?

Just got accepted to SJSU as a transfer with a 2.8 gpa !!

http://info.sjsu.edu/static/admission/impaction.html leads to the 2015 transfer GPA thresholds given at http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-10079.11704.html

Gotta post here for DS since UCBalumnus has such a great template!

YoHoYoHo, I wonder if my son would have preferred animation. He couldn’t decide on majors at various colleges, and applied as an animation major at Fullerton, but ID at SJSU and CSULB (and Mechanical Engr at SLO and SDSU).

@sbjdorlo,
DS always wanted to do video game art and then changed to animation in fall of sr year so had to do some big changes. He was accepted into animation at CSUF like your son as well.

Ha-ha, well my son wasn’t accepted yet to CSUF. Not quite sure why since he was accepted to CSULB. He had to send his 7th semester grades and they still are processing them.

Each Cal State has treated him differently. Since he’s an independent homeschooler, I wasn’t sure he’d get in anywhere, as traditionally, the Cal States and UCs have been fairly unfriendly towards us. But things are changing overall. Only SDSU gave my son a hassle about his science labs. None of the other schools asked for anything more (Fullerton seems to ask most/all for their 7th semester grades).

I am hoping he gets accepted, as Fullerton might be actually affordable (as, unfortunately, SJSU and CSULB appear not to be) if he stays in the dorms at Hope College across the street.

My son adores animation and is taking his second semester at the local community college. They’re working on character design this semester. He really likes the modeling part of animation more than the actual animation (moving design).

My son still has no clue what he wants, as he applied for about 5-6 different majors, depending on the school!

My DS loves character design as well. Has taken many classes at Art center college of design for char design already. He probably would have much more fun at art school, but I’m making him attend a traditional university for other majors in case he changes his mind. Sorry we high jacked this thread. Probably should be talking in the visual arts forum. DS prefers 2d char design. With your DS love for 3d char design, can design textures, hair, feathers,

Got accepted as a transfer with a 3.0 gpa. Major was Rec. Therapy.

Guys… My status was showing incomplete for all these days and suddenly it showed complete… I’m an international student… How long will it take more???

Applied for Comp Sci but accepted to undeclared. I don’t think I met the eligibility for the major.

I got accepted as an electrical engineering major
CSU GPA was 3.95
SAT scores: 580 reading, 570 math, 570 writing
California resident: Yes

I might attend. If I get into Cal Poly Pomona, I am going there. But if not, then I will either be going to San Jose, Long Beach, or San Diego (Haven’t heard from San Diego yet though). I like San Jose for my major since it’s in the Silicon valley and I’ve already thought it would be nice to live in Northern California. But at the same time, I would rather just go to Pomona, live at home and commute. Not to mention it is a better school for electrical engineering.

Have any of you noticed that the admission letter stated that SJSU admits only 6.5k out of 46k applicants for Fall 2015? Amazing, isn’t it? Congratulations to all of you!

SJSU admits over 60% of its applicants but I’m sure the matriculation rate is much lower. I think that you are referring to the number of applicants that attend SJSU.

Enrollment Stats for all Cal state campuses. Most schools will accept 3 times as many students that end up attending.

http://www.calstate.edu/AS/stat_reports/2014-2015/f14_10.htm

My son got accepted into SJSU and the acceptance letter dated Feb 23rd, 2015 stated that < To become one of the 6,500 new undergraduate Spartans we expect in the fall (out of 46,000 applicants), please read these documents carefully and follow the steps to enrollment.> I was shocked too.

@AveMaria15: What are you shocked about?

There are a ton of applicants but also a ton of people who get in but don’t attend/matriculate. Therefore, they do still admit a fairly high number of applicants. A lot just choose not to go.

http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=768 indicates that SJSU’s admission rate for a recent previous year was 64% of those who applied, while the yield rate was 42% of those who were admitted.

27,679 applicants → 17,733 admits → 7,502 enrolled

Now, if SJSU experienced a number of applicants increasing to 46,000, then the admit rate presumably went down, though they probably still admitted about two and a half times the number of students that they expect to enroll (of course, that may be adjusted based on yield predictions based on strength of applicants).
