Santa Clara Accepted Students Thread

Who got in? Did you get notice of financial aid? Do you plan on attending SCU?

Accepted but no notice of financial aid, the letter says notifications will go out by the end of December. SCU is a definite contender…but like everything else…it depends on the money, lol

I’m in the same boat here… if I get decent financial aid then I think I’ll go, but SCU isn’t really known for their generosity lol

Got deferred from Early Action to regular decision.
GPA is 3.6ish UW,
SAT is 1400 superscored

Same for DS – accepted but waiting for aid. Looks like some people got Provost scholarship notification with their acceptance letter. So that left the Johnson, Presidential, and Dean’s … and nothing. Not sure why Provost is so special though.

Like Moomoodog my S also deferred, exactly the same stats

Hmm, looks like financial aid info is out … SCU’s reputation for “not known for their generosity” validated.

@bogeyorpar isn’t that the truth. I got the most underwhelming scholarship for such an expensive school. Makes me sad because I really love Santa Clara

My DD got Dean’s scholarship. Any chance she will qualify for Johnson scholarship? Otherwise it’s still not an affordable option.

I got accepted and I received a small incentive grant which is unfortunate because Santa Clara is not the most affordable option.

Dean’s scholarship for my d. She loves the school, but we were hoping for better financial aid.

To people that received a merit scholarship: what scholarship did you receive (provost, dean’s, presidential, etc.) and what were your stats?
Santa Clara was one of my safety schools and I received more merit aid at more prestigious schools. I know that SCU is notoriously stingy with their merit aid, but this just seems a bit ridiculous. Also, does anyone know if Santa Clara will match aid packages?

Do you guys think the merit aid offer is final? Will they change (hopefully increase) the offer when higher stats kids decline their President or Provost offers and go to Ivies instead?

@bogeyorpar I don’t think it works that way. It’s usually actuarily-determined, so they build in how much aid they think will be declined when they make the offers.

The financial aid award for my son was a big letdown. But considering the apparent reputation of their financial aid department, we now understand.

Haven’t seen anyone comment on @18rose 's question: "does anyone know if Santa Clara will match aid packages?

I’ve heard schools matching need-based financial aid, but not merit-based aid. My son also received much bigger merit-aid (many times the amount of SCU aid) from other higher ranked schools. Not sure if SCU will entertain the idea of matching merit-aid?

Also, from the thread, it looks like SCU gives bigger aid package to in-state students, especially those in the NorCal area, and meager ones to OOS students, even if their academic stats are similar. Is that true? They may have yield protection in mind – the NorCal students are much more likely to attend comparing to students from Boston or NY or Hawaii or Seattle.

Accepted, very happy with financial aid, plan on attending if my parents let me go to California (I’m from the east coast)
