Santa Clara Scholarships - Do you have to apply early action?

Hi!

My son is applying to a number of schools, and somehow Santa Clara fell off our radar! I just realized that is a very good match in many ways, so we'd like to add it to the list, however it looks like their early action deadline was November 1. Of course my son can still apply regular decision, but we are in a bit of a financial pickle, and he really needs some merit aid (scholarships) at any school he attends to make it affordable, other than our state school at which he should receive a good package.

If we apply regular decision to Santa Clara, is he still eligible for the merit aid scholarships there?

Thanks!
:)

@chris17mom It looks like your son could still qualify with a regular decision application. From: <a href=“Financial Aid - Santa Clara University”>http://www.scu.edu/financialaid/Regular-Decision-Applicants.cfm</a>

“To be considered for the full range of SCU-awarded scholarships and grants, regular decisions applicants are required to complete a secondary application, the College Scholarship Service/Financial Aid PROFILE. Be sure to designate Santa Clara University as a recipient of the information, using the College Scholarship Service Code 4851.”

We were very impressed with Santa Clara, but like you we would need merit aid to make this work. My son wants to study engineering, and has SC in his top two. We did apply Early Action.

Have you visited yet? We had a great visit last May (from Arizona). Here is my visit report: http://www.collegeconfidential.com/vibe/santa-clara-university/8474546.html</a></p>

Awesome! I’ll definitely read your report on your visit! We have not been out there but we will definitely make the trip (also from AZ!), especially if it is looking feasible. I’m glad to hear he will still be eligible for merit aid, since we missed the early action deadline. Thanks!

@chris17mom There are tons of direct flights from Phoenix to San Jose on Southwest and US Air. The college is a ten-minute taxi or bus-ride from the airport. The Santa Clara Valley Transit Route 10 shuttle (free) takes you from the San Jose airport to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station which is located across the street from the main entrance of campus.

We flew out in the morning and back early in the evening for a nice day trip.

You can contact me directly with any specific questions.

I read your review and it sounds great! I wish we’d applied early action, but regular action will be fine I think! :)

Is it too late for my son to receive merit based aid if he was accepted early action and I haven’t filled in a CSS
Form yet?

@Ucsd85, I believe on another post a representative from the university answered this question, and the answer is basically your son will miss out on money as it is doled out so to speak on a first come first serve basis for those who filled out the CCS application.

I have the same question about the CSS form. I spoke to admissions and from what I understand, they said that there are some merit only scholarships (Johnson Scholar, provost, presidential and Dean’s) but that by not filling out the CSS Profile, you may miss out on others. Financial aid said it was too late to fill out CSS for EA. We will hear by the end of the month if they receive any merit aid.
