Santa Clara vs. Fordham for business

My son has been offered admission to both the Fordham Global Business Honors Program and the Dean's Leadership Program at Santa Clara's Leavey School of Business.

Silicon Valley vs. New York City?

Pros and cons of each school/program?

And then there's USC, but he didn't apply for business there.

Congrats.

Where might he like to work after graduation? It seems location might play a big factor in this.

Ranking is somewhat irrelevant other than ballpark placement, in my opinion. Businessweek places SCU at #35 and Fordham as #52, but I think once you have a top-100 school it is about how the program fits the student that really matters.

Has he visited both campuses? I think that is the deciding factor–he is likely to feel “at home” with one or the other.

I would also have your son look best he can at how the business programs are structured–specialty paths, types and ranges of classes, size of classes, etc and see if one or the other program seems to intellectually feel better to him.

My daughter who is at SCU is the type of person who has a hard time making decisions because she weighs 20 criteria points for 1 decision. When she was selecting her college, she had to boil the criteria down to 2, maybe 3 really important points and just focus on those make-or-break options.

Sorry, I don’t know enough about either business program to comment specifically, but I have found that the websites these days are really very informative–dig deep into the major requirements, see what classes are being offered this spring and (soon) also will be posted soon what is offered for next fall to get a taste of the range of classes, etc.

I was in a similar position being offered the Dean’s Leadership Program at SCU and chose SCU! SCU seemed to be a better fit for me, but I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice. The Global Business Honors Program is very tiny at Fordham and seems like a better and more in-depth program than the Dean’s Leadership Program. However, when I went to SCU, they told me most DLP students go into the ACE program sophomore year which is a great honors-type program.

The Silicon Valley is great for business, and NYC…well it’s nyc. I noticed Fordham has more majors. For example, there are three types of Accounting majors whereas SCU has two. Good luck deciding!
