"Santa Fe's strong relationship with UF"

SSobick, transfer admissions are being cut pretty dramatically. The department I am transferring into (CISE) only had two spots open for transfers, and that is for all three majors in the dept. In previous years there were as many as 15 spots. That is a pretty big cut.

The reason the junior college was concieved was to take some of the strain off of universities. Not having to concentrate on so many students for lower level courses allows the universities to concentrate on the more important upper level courses and grad schools. Kind of like outsourcing of education. Of course, this doesn’t really work very well in our state because the universities need to have very high enrollment to receive funding…

“I also find it unfair that they are having to reduce the size of incoming classes at the expense of the FTIC freshmen because the Legislature refuses to pay their fair share”…All I have to say is…Bright..Futures..is..a..broken..system…Bright Futures can pretty much be blamed for all of the financial hardship our SUS is facing.

I definitely agree with you about SFCC needing to be on the same level with other CCs.

[James Wattenbarger, father of Florida’s community college system, | News & Publications](http://news.education.ufl.edu/james-wattenbarger-father-floridas-community-college-system)

I am familiar with the history of the Community Colleges in Florida. Here is some reading material about the Populist who created the system through his Doctoral dissertation back in the 1950’s.

Overall I would argue the times have changed and it’s time for the state to go in a new direction to how we facilitate the transfering from Junior College to Research Universities (ie: UF, FSU, and USF-Tampa). Back in the 1950’s the population was around 2.7 million residents (when the 2 + 2 system was created). Today we have well over 18 million residents and the needs of the state are not being maximized for efficiency. Change this pathetic system for Pete’s sake!
