SAR/6+ schools Question

Alright, I'm really confused...I finished and completed the FAFSA on Jan. 3 with 2004 estimates and then received an email with a link to my SAR. Now, is it too soon to start switching schools on my forms and sending SARs and all that? Can anyone help me out (I need to send the FAFSA to 3 additional schools) and tell me when I can do this stuff. Thanks.

I don't know all the answers or how to do the timing. I can tell you that last year after I gave colleges the SAR number they went in and changed one of the six slots to themselves. This happened twice. I received emails every time it changed and I have before and after printouts to prove it. I never knew if the original college had the info or not.

If you are doing the FAFSA ON-LINE and have more than 6 schools you would (I would suggest printing out a copy of your SAR before making corrections/changing schools on the form)

"Go to the FAFSA Corrections on the Web site and replace the schools listed on your application with other school codes and submit a correction to your FAFSA information. You will need your PIN for this option."

If you do it on line , it usually takes approximately 3 days before every thing is submitted.

I did, I changed it right after I got my SAR, but I have no idea if I was suppose to change it in so fast.

so: if i'm making corrections on my first SAR, i will need to send it another two times, right? that is, 1) Corrected FAFSA for the first 6 schools.... and 2) a Corrected FAFSA for the other "surplus" schools i couldn't fit in.

yep.

make a printout of the SAR before you do corrections. If you are doing the FAFSA on-line everything happens pretty quickly (processed in about 3 days)

The directions on the site say to print out the completed and processed report and mail the printed copy to any schools that exceed the 6 allowed. Is that not the correct way to do it?

You can do it that way as well. Either way is fine.

ok. So we submit the fafsa to and get a SAR. Then we go back to make corrections for more schools. Then submit that correction. Then, after we get our tax returns back, we go back and make corrections and verify the information to send to six schools. Then we go back and select the other schools we want the final corrections to be sent?

yup that is what i did/ and will make corrections once i get tax returns.

that is soooo much work. (Not really, time actually.)
