In the area where we're supposed to put the colleges we're applying to, I only see six spots. I'm applying to at least eight colleges, if not more. What should I do?

you do the FAFSA with 6 schools, then after you get your SAR you file an amended FAFSA with the 2 you left off the first time around. Check the FAFSA deadlines for the schools -- I've always simply done the first FAFSA for the schools with the earliest deadlines, the second one for the the later deadlines.

Make sure the first six SCHOOLS receive your SAR. THEN go in and amend by deleting two schools and adding two schools. BUT make sure your first batch of schools has the report. Sometimes YOU will receive your SAR immediately or very quickly, but the electronic transfer to the schools takes a LOT longer.

I'm pretty sure that once a SAR has been generated, it's there for the college to retrieve electronically even if you amend and list different colleges. I never waited and I also never ran into any issue with colleges getting the SAR.

This past year my daughter applied to 12 colleges. SAR #1 included Barnard & 5 others. SAR #2 didn't. After my taxes were done, I went in and amended the FAFSA's, producing SAR #3 (including Barnard + the same 5 others), and SAR #4 (without Barnard) - that was the last FAFSA we did. D. was accepted to Barnard. In July, the Barnard financial aid department went in and amended the SAR #3, producing SAR #5, with the same set of 6 colleges. If FAFSA #4 had rendered SAR #3 unavailable, then it wouldn't have been there for Barnard's financial aid people to amend.

I can log in any time and pull up any one of the 5 SAR's now on file. I assume that colleges can only pull up the specific SARs that list them - so Barnard should be able to access #1, #3 & #5.
