SAR Questions...

I submitted the FAFSA on January 24 and was able to view my SAR online today. Some things about it bothered me, though.

On the SAR Comments page, it says, "Your FAFSA has been selected for a review process called verification. Your school has the authority to request copies of certain financial documents from you and your parent(s)."

Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Also, under WHAT YOU MUST DO NOW, it says, "The Social Security Administration did not confirm that you are a U.S. citizen. You must provide your school with documentation of your citizenship status before you can receive federal student aid."

I am a U.S. Citizen. Again, should I be worried?

Thanks in advance.

About 30% of SARs are *d for verification. Your school should contact you and tell you what documentation you will need to provide. I believe they do not always ask but you should be ready to provide supporting documentation for the figures you entered into FAFSA.

The US citizen thing is probably less common but, again, your school should tell you what you need to provide. (passport, birth certificates, things like that).

Nothing to worry about (assuming your information on FAFSA is correct that is)

Has anyone else had to go through verification?
