That’s great for your D! After listening to the panels at admitted students day, I still think SLC is a great school, but I’m just not sure it’s the right fit for me. They obviously have a huge emphasis on the arts, which is really cool, but it seemed to me like STEM students are a minority there and that accomplishments and interests related to STEM are kind of pushed to the background. Again, I don’t mind the emphasis on the arts and I love to be around super creative people, but it really seems to dominate the community and I’m worried that I would have a hard time fitting in or making friends without those same interests. I’m not going to take it off of my list just yet, but as of right now I think I’m looking for a school with a little more balance.
Totally understand that, and it’s a great thing to consider in a school. It seems like Sarah Lawrence is to performing arts as MIT is to science and math in terms of emphasis LOL
Yeah, that was the impression I got. I’m starting to realize that I want a little more balance in terms of what the students at a college are interested in, since I think that will be the best way for me to meet people with really diverse perspectives that I’ll be able to learn a lot from! That’s the main reason I mostly applied to liberal arts colleges instead of the more STEM-focused schools like MIT, and I think that was the right decision for me. I’m super excited for the people who still love SLC though! I just hope we all end up at the schools that are right for us.
And it’s interesting that your impression was that they would be pushed to the background, she felt that there would be less competition for internships and things like that! LOL. She wants to double major in bio and psych or possibly a language so maybe she’s a hybrid kid. LOL. Good luck to you!
Yeah, there could definitely be some positive things about going into a less popular major, if that’s what your D wants to do. Good luck to her as well, and I hope SLC (or whatever school she ultimately decides to go to) turns out to be everything she’s hoping for!
Does anyone know when regular decisions will be released?
Late March I believe?
RD decisions came out!!!
yay!!! just got accepted hehe:)
Omg yay!!! Congrats!
what about you?
Yeah got accepted with Pres. scholarship ($35k/year)!
Thats awesome!!! Have you ever visited the campus or know what its like?
Yeah I visited campus during Covid! It is SOOOO beautiful omg. Literally felt right at home. Gothic architecture and beautiful nature-y landscaping!
My daughter was waitlisted. It’s okay!
omg i’m so sorry. I really hope she gets off the waitlist! Let me know if I can help in any way!
I applied EA and was deferred and at first I was really scared, but I wrote a letter to my regional counselor explaining why I would be a good fit at the school and he was super nice and responded really fast! I definitely recommend writing a letter of interest as I think that was the reason why I ended up getting accepted!
She applied to a lot of schools, but yes SLC sounds wonderful (we haven’t visited yet) and congratulations to those who were accepted! It’s a great feeling. She cast a wide net for many reasons, and so far she’s been accepted at Bard, Ithaca, Juniata, UMass (just down the street from us) and Dickinson just yesterday, with several more decisions expected this week and next. So, disappointing but not crushingly so!
Those are all wonderful schools! Congrats on all the acceptances and I am so happy ro hear that your daughter has so many great options! I applied to Ithaca too, but still waiting (I applied as a music major, and they take super long to get back to us lol)… Please keep us posted if you wish! Best of luck to your daughter!
Congrats PerformingDude! I’ve been watching for this for you!
