These are established polling companies that adjust for party representation and other factors. Both Gallup and Rasmussen are very credible polling resources.

I may be wrong, but I think Rasmussen adjusts for party representation, whereas Gallup does not. This is why Gallup gives McCain such a strong convention bounce (something like 14 points), whereas Rasmussen's is more modest (was 6 points, now is 4 points). Right now, Rasmussen has Obama ahead by a point, while Gallup has McCain up by 5. There must be a factor that is contributing to such a large difference.

Pug- this is an excellent example of what is wrong with America. You act like this is a football game and you are going to cheer for the red team no matter what. If you voted for Bush and think Palin is qualified and McCain has good judgement, res ipsa loquitor.

I have voted for Reagan and Bush the Greater, when the GOP became out of touch with the people, I noticed and voted for Clinton.

I understand now why the Founding Fathers were so afraid of the masses. They were seldom right but often loud.

America is currently a mediocracy, where the public are resentful of those they perceive to be superior to them, particularly in education and intellect. Sarah Palin is the ultimate embodiment of a mediocrat: an undistinguished and unqualified vice-presidential nominee who is garnering support for her LACK of a hoity-toity resume.

I've been skeptical of democracy for the past few years, and the elections are my primary evidence that democracy is and has been a failure. You lie to the people, and they'll support you. You make decisions that will hurt them, they'll support you. Just make sure that you're a devout Christian who is in some artificial way connected with the voters, and you're good. It doesn't matter how intelligent or sincere you are, or how much of a crook you are.

I've said this once and I'll say it again: People are idiots. Put them in charge, and they'll completely destroy the country. The only reason that the country's survived thus far is because true leaders like Reagan and Clinton could connect with the people. Now that the candidates who can connect with people are Bush and McCain (via Palin), the country is quickly fading.

When will Sarah Palin get a new speech? It's really creepy: she's not allowed to talk to reporters, she never says anything on record, and she just parachutes onto McCain's lethargic rallies to deliver the EXACT same speech and the exact same lies over and over again. She is like a prop.

stop using the word democracy, we don't live in one. sorry, America is and was founded to be a Constitutional republic. At least read the Federalist Papers.

This country was designed and meant to run on a minimalist platform. It was also designed to embrace human individual intelligence and not the collective idea we have now.

If you think Obama or McCain will do anything to steer this country, even a bit in the right direction, your a fool and have absolutely zero understanding of America. I'm sorry to say it, but its true.

Also I must comment on Freddie and Fannie , and the argument with pug vs the rest.

Well to start they were both created or chartered by congress. They though both are owned privately by their investors, clients or users. What allows them to operate agaist the interest of the free market is the security added by the federal government through Ginnie Mae to back the investments(loans) by the users. Ginnie Mae job is to back these GSE's. So since the govt created Freddie and Fannie, to increase the liquidity of the market, against the contraction due to regulation. It is essentially the governments job to bail these guys out and from the start they have always be guaranteed automatic bailout. It was not a decision. Ginnie Mae is a auto bailout.

GIBSON: But I, color me a cynic, but I hear a little bit of change in your policy there. When you say, yes, now you're beginning to say it is man-made. It sounds to me like you're adapting your position to Sen. McCain's.

PALIN: I think you are a cynic because show me where I have ever said that there's absolute proof that nothing that man has ever conducted or engaged in has had any affect, or no affect, on climate change.

Ohio is irrelevant as long as Obama can hold his solid coalition together. This coalition is: the hard blue states + MI + CO + NM + NH. This won't be very difficult. The current electoral college (w/ no toss ups) has Obama winning 273-265, even though McCain would win FL, OH, and VA.

If the election were held today, I'd imagine that CO would go blue... But the Democratic brand is losing its way and the election is held in November.

Only the left would care what a spoiled Hollywood celebrity has to say. Why would anyone put stock in what ANY celebrity, athlete or any of the such say? I know they all live in the real world with the rest of us... At least look up to someone who runs a business or something...
