Sat 2 bio vs AP bio

After an honors (not AP) freshman bio class, my daughter took the SAT 2 in bio-M and the AP bio exams. She got a 650 on the SAT 2 (about 50th %tile) and a 4 on the AP exam, which looks like a higher score on a more advanced exam. Because the 4 will give her credit at many colleges, she doesn't plan to take AP Bio in high school. The 650 doesn't looks so impressive, however, and I am wondering why she would have done worse on that test than the AP, and what to do if she tries to retake it to improve the score. Her intended major is bio-related, so she should probably submit an SAT score in bio. Maybe someone who took both can enlighten us.

Your D can self study Biology within two week. I had no prior experience in Biology and from just reading Princeton Review and Barrons, I got a pretty good score on the test. (770)

She did self-study for both, using Barrons and PR, which is why I am wondering why the SAT score is low and the AP score is relatively high when she never took the AP course. I am wondering what was so different about the 2 exams?
