so im thinking of applying to princeton but they request an sat 2 in chemistry for engineering prospects. my sat bio score was good but my sat 2 in chem is only a 690. i have a 5 on the ap chem exam though. will the 690 hurt my chances of admission?

I’d think for a school like Princeton, and for an SAT II needed for your major, it’d be best to score above a 700, 750 at least. If you can, you should, but I doubt the 5 on AP Chem would ‘make up’ for it.

A 5 on the ap exam is good, but there are tens of thousands of other applicants who have a 5 who also have a higher SAT 2 score.

That’s a good point about scoring at least a 750 for Princeton. We’re not talking about some state technical college here.
